To: The U.S. President and others

AGENT ORANGE, THE CHEMICAL, has killed, is still
killing, and causing great suffering to over three
million people in Vietnam.

PLEASE HELP THEM BY SIGNING THIS PETITION.

We welcome and support the Civil Action brought by the
Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin,
and three Vietnamese victims. The documents have been
submitted to a court in New York, on behalf of all
affected by the chemicals used by the American Forces
in their War on Vietnam.

This will be the first ever such action by Vietnamese
victims of Agent Orange in any court of law.

We call upon the U.S. President, Government and the
Chemical Companies named as defendants in the
documents, to accept their responsibilities for the
damage caused by their actions and products, and to
pay full compensation to the victim.

The Agent Orange has been and is still destroying
lives of hundreds of innocent Vietnamese. Pls help to

America has accepted the efects of Agent Orange but just never taken action and or paid the 3.75 billion it said it would.

also America had to back out of Vietnam eventually and as you know the media had an important role to play in this descion espeically the dramatic images such as the award winnig pic of a monk burning himself alive as a protest to America.

one of the major impact photos was the award winning video and picture of a young Vietnamese girl who had her clothes burnt off and her skin still burning by agent Orange.

Actually agent orange is not the problem its the dioxins produced in making the stuff, these get mixed in and it is a toxin, carcinogen and mutagen, great stuff.

going after the goverment is one thing but going after the make is another. So a guy builds a car it runs some one over they go after the driver and the car builder. How is that fair?

If i remember a newspaper article on it from last year, some people knew there were a fair bit of dioxins, but back then they didnt know much about the effects and couldnt care less. I would say sue the gvt, since it used it. Personally I think Vietnam has a pretty good case, the actual figures of deformed births etc are staggering.

I guess that depends on whether or not the manufacturers told the government that agent orange was a mutagen with components that bind to aryl hydrocarbon receptors. If they did then they're in in the clear I guess.
I don't think the car analogy holds water unless, of course, the accident occurred because of a design fault in the brakes :)

Well at least agent orange gave the government the opportunity to put tax dollars back into corporate America.

Well.. I would say US the government should be sued. Not only because it used agent orange during the war but also ignored the compensation those victims should have had during these years.
If anyone has a chance to see with your own eyes those deformed births and listen to them, you surely want to do something for them. Until now the Vietnamses government does not have enough funding to research on those cases. Several years ago, when visiting a charity village called "Peace", I had a chance to talk to those deformed birth. The children there were neglected by parents.. Some of them could still think normally.. and man, they had dreams also.. And many other cases..
The famous picture of a burnt girl during the war was only one case that was brought into media. How about those unknown cases? These victims need justice also? Or everything will eventually come to silent?

The US government ackowledged its varied hazards in 1991 with the Agent Orange Act (http://www4.nationalacademies.org/ocga/publaw.nsf/0/f87111d6e4bd704f85256a34006f62be?OpenDocument). All veterans exposed to it directly or indirectly are afforded VA disability benefits (http://www.vba.va.gov/bln/21/Benefits/Herbicide/AOno3.htm).

Also, this is one of those stupid online petitions. It's nothing substantive, really. People file them all the time (you can start one of your own in five minutes) and they never go anywhere.

Go ahead and sign it. Just know what you're signing.
