I don't really think the person in question could be described as a "free thinker", Cowboy.

Who are we talking about anyways? I think I know, but I want to avoid a wrong assumption. There are many people who fit your description to a 'T' goofy. To me a troll is someone who posts low quality and obnoxious stuff, and doesn't read reply's, or doesn't offer intelligent and thoughtful responses. I don't think anyone in particular stands out as being the WORST, exept maybe to biased observation.

There's a difference between censoring somebody and asking people to not encourage someone. Silencing the troll by force at this point would be ... vaguely inappropriate. But two-bit bridge-dwellers (see "Bily Goat Gruff") will poke their heads out if anyone comes near. Simply cussing out the troll feeds the troll. In lieu of any rational debate, the troll seeks to inflame and break down commuication by adding chaos to the mix.

If you ignore a troll, it will go away eventually. In the meantime, am I censoring the spitting, blithering street preacher if I just walk on by without paying attention?

Without trolls a select few can set the agenda. This would result in a black white viewpoint in the forums. I as a troll humbly declare that I will shred any proposal that I don't like, oppose those that have already opposed me, I will present my ideas as I see fit. Any one wanna join in the oath?

I think censoring them is bad because they might say something good (someday).

Here is may idea, lets have the moderators put a warning under a trolls post saying “I’m a troll, DO NOT FEED ME” Hehe we could even have it automatic so that under every post of the troller the warning appears until the toller starts looking at other peoples opinions and treating them fairly, and is forgiven by us and the mods. I already have a list of names ready for this punishment :D

May you list us ideas, thoughts, and behaviors that characterises it's owner as a troll.......I was telling my kids a troll story last night that required Dora to count the stars on the page before she can go on the bridge....such a simple request to abide to.

It also seems to me that ignoring the troll does not work, on the contrary it adds more fuel to the troll's fire and makes them think that they own the forum. Responding with good logic and rebutting the troll's ideas is the most effective method.

Maybe I can give this place another shot.. I didn't even realize that there was a "censure" ablity. I just left.. so many of the loudest posters seemed completely ignorant. Almost criminally so! lol

I don't have a problem supporting a minority view but I do expect that those I converse with to deal in facts. What passes for legitamate news sources around here is appalling. Also, I guess I don't espouse many of those nitwitted conspiracy theories.

I was under the impression that the idea of this board was to talk about "WORLD EVENTS & POLITICS" and not just from a western point of view. Certain people who post have a problem with the lack of unbiased news we have as Americans. For anyone on this site to say or think that we get the "full" story from whatever news source you happen to listen to is not living in reality.

This person, labeled the "troll" has live a lifetime seeing things that have been done to her and her people that we never hear about. She has first hand knowledge of what our foreign policy is doing in the world. While, I admit that she comes off a bit rough, it's the way she reacts when we tell her we don't believe her, not because we have proof to the contrary but because we actually have no proof to support or denied her claims and to her we more than likely look as if we could care less as long as we can eat at McDonald and drive around in our big SUV's. Don't get me wrong. I like McDonald {FRENCH fries} and I like driving around in my car but I realize that what passes for news in is nothing more than big business trying to keep us as passive as possible. {One of these days, someone on this board is gonna wake up and think about the term democracy and what it is and then try to apply the term to the USA - it doesn't fit.}

While calling people- what did she say - "Burger eating, yada, yadas fools, yada, wake up, yada” what she said was true. We really have no idea of what happens in other countries. We get all out news from the corporate media. Media owned and controlled by big business. Big Business that sees us as nothing more than consumers. We as consumers have no say so in how our government operates. All the laws are really in place to support big business not the consumers. What’s going to make the most profit for Big Business? Will a war with Iraq make money for the arms producers of the world? If you knew that your government was killing people in South America in order for big business to have a cheap labor pool, would you speak up? If you knew that the world had been divided into economic zones and depending where you were in that zone, dictated what your function to big business was, either as a cheap labor source, a source of resources or as consumers, would it make any difference to you? If your function was to provide resources - oil, minerals, etc - and all the profits of these were taken from your country while your people starved, would it matter one bit to you? If dictators were put in charge of your country in order to have a government friendly to the corporate need and to keep you in line*, once you started asking questions {keep you in line = kill you} would you be happy with the country that decide you needed a dictator?

What this "troll" sees is what we don't see. We see what “they” want us to see so instead of ignoring her, listen a bit and try to get her to tone down the rhetoric. Some of us are set in our ways and would rather not hear anything that isn’t CNN but people, there are two sides to every story and I think that most of us would have to admit that we are only getting one side of the story.

Edited to say: Theres no reason to force myself to listen to "hate" soley to respect the right of free speech. I heard that persons rot over and over and over again. Other than an example of racism he has nothing to offer. I've learned that from him and so I'll go back to the realm of ideas without him. No loss.
