I am pissed at the fact that i won't be buying this.....

I bought a PS1 then a PS2 for my son, third time lucky?. not a chance, if he want's one he will have to get a job.

Fair enough I'd say. Growing up, I was only given a Nintendo Entertainment System which at the time cost $100.00. It was a big deal. After that, everything was bought with hard earned grass cutting money (well until about 12 when i started doing computer work for between 20-30 an hour

Don't be taken in by the Gimmicks, sarge. It's just a useless ploy by sony to make more money and gain an edge over the rising X-Box, which they now realize as a big threat to their market. It used to be that X-Box didn't have many good games. Now, things are beginning to change, so Sony is feeling trapped. I doubt it's gonna be that good anyways.

Now what I'd really like to see is Macintosh release a gaming system of their own. Imagine - something with the quality and dedication of Nintendo, the 'coolness' of Sony, and the technical capabilities of Microsoft. Sound good, no?

 

I hate consoles... its a PC for me all the way. I can do all those things and more with much hotter graphics on my computer.

 

Just remember if your in the UK, it's legislation to have a Television license when it comes to anything that can tune into the television, so you won't just be forking out for the PSX but the license as well (which is the equivalent of the price for about 3-4 games)

 

hey, HEY wait a minute where the heck is a PS3!!! I mean they should make a PS3 that is superior to the xbox in every way! Have your ever seen that PS9 commercial? : Sony promised to keep going up numerically and progression in gaming experience, this PSX thing is a hypocritical move for Sony may they rot in hell!

You should be thanking them. Their original plan a year ago was to release PS3 in 2005, which according to their site and Best buy employees was to be totally over the internet, they said that you wouldn't even go to the store to buy games, you'd just download them. (i didn't really think this was all that) aparently PSX is just a compromise they made, i didn't read the article but it sounded like this X version will still use the same CD games... sounds to me though it would be cheaper to just buy the internet expansion pack and a dvd burner separely

 

Same, I got the NES when I was 9 and spent every penny I earned on games and compters untill I discovered booze.

 

Wait, wasn't the PSX the original PlayStation? I'm sure it was...It was! All the magazines called it that and everything!

So this is just Sony's dream of making a complete home entertainment system. Sounds a lot better than the Nintendo Entertainment System that's fer sure

There's some huge differences between sony and Microsoft.

Microsoft is willing to take huge losses on the XBOX for a long time, because they have so much damn money anyway. While the XBOX got off to a slow start, they seem to be catching up. Their online service sounds particularly promising. They charge for the online service, which is available for many games already and tends to be quite fast.

However, The integrity of Sony depends on PS2, because most of their revenue comes from that alone. Sony depends on it's developers to provide online services, which came sometimes lack in quality.

 

BS! Sony produces just about everything heck they even own Columbia pictures!

 

Not most but huge chunks of it...around 40% of their electronic sales come form Playstation and it's related merchandise...quite a bit won't you say. WCF is right however Sony does have a part in everything.......Movies, Music etc

the PS3 is coming, and it will likely be all that this PSX has, and then some, plus better graphics/online play. I think that the PSX is just designed to throw a little frag grenade at Xbox so to speak, because the biggest things Xbox has going for it are best graphics and performance(arguable) Hard drive, and ability to play dvds.

Now with the PSX, sony will have, all their games and franchises, ability to play all forms of DVD, and divX, a bigger HD than Xbox, and the tivo to boot.

This should derail MS attempts at trying to further their stance on the market, giving Sony more customers.

 

When this new PSX was first announced I remember reading a reviewer saying something to the effect of..."the name PSX was never meant to have wisespread use, it was a very obscure name for the PS1, that a few japanese magazines used, however it did become rather popular somehow"

The PS3 is claim by Sony to come out in late 2004 to early 2005, very little is known about it except some very rumors stuff about a it having 16 processor on a single die (chip) running at 4Ghz, making a theoretical performance of ~100 times the processing power of the PS2. It will have no GPU just this one massive “Cell” CPU.

Umm actually 1000 times that of PS2...planned that is.

 

I also heard something that the PS3 was going to be all online....or something like that, like you download games...I don't know, didn't make much sense at the time, just a muddled rumor
