View Full Version : Pixels?
Lemming3k 05-05-04, 11:04 AM Im having trouble finding an avater that i can use on sciforums as the pixel limit is 40x40 and everything i have has too many, i was wondering if theres a way to change the amount of pixels? I cant find anything on the web so im hoping somebody has some knowledge and can help, thanks.
If you have photoshop or basically any decent image manipulation program it can resize. You'll lose some resolution, but nothing you can do to prevent that. Oh and don't forget you have to pay to show that avatar.
photoshop is to big a prog. just for resizing images use irfanview
http://www.irfanview.com/main_download_engl.htm
Oh and don't forget you have to pay to show that avatar.
no you don't.
Lemming3k 05-05-04, 04:21 PM Damn i've resized it with irfanview but now it says the uploaded file is not a valid GIF, JPG, or PNG file and i cant find where to change that, i wish i knew more about this stuff.
irfanview can also change format to
File -> Save As: change "Save as type" to JPG
Lemming3k 05-05-04, 04:40 PM I should have known that one i've done it before cant believe i forgot, i guess im not so good with computers as i thought, thats sorted now, thanks Kunax. :)
Closet Philosopher 05-05-04, 08:30 PM I think my avatar says what I think about the Avatar situation :)
Porfiry 05-06-04, 12:00 AM Don't like it, don't come here. Or fork over some cash to pay for the bandwidth. But, I will admit to being amused by your form of protest. Good one, dude.
ROFL salty dude.
On anoher note dont they have servers with unlimited trafic down under yet ?
Larger avatars don't fit as well with the design.
Stryder 05-06-04, 03:43 AM To tell you the truth it's not the size of the avatar that matters, it's more whether you have one or not.
To skim down a large thread to find the most recent post is made easier by using the avatar to work out who posted last. (Admittedly it was difficult without them)
To tell you the truth it's not the size of the avatar that matters
that phrase works on so many levels.
Porfiry 05-06-04, 04:22 AM I'm not ashamed of the size of my avatar.
spuriousmonkey 05-06-04, 04:22 AM Honestly, 40x40 is still large enough to make very nice and clear Avatars as can be seen from the avatars of many members.
buffy have a very nice and clear avatar... unless.. nah
spuriousmonkey 05-06-04, 07:03 AM I made a custom avatar for Xev:
Fat man on couch
http://sciforums.*******************/xev_spuriousmonkey.gif
For Kunax a tiger:
http://sciforums.*******************/kunax_spuriousmonkey.gif
or this tiger:
http://sciforums.*******************/kunax_spuriousmonkey2.gif
haha With a remote and all, i thought xev was female, well that or playing the crowed.
how about a Avatar competesion, we can call it "Sciforum Composition Intriguely Reflecting Undeveloped Minds" aka SCIRUM, only rule: #maintain 40x40
his mine i call it "bend over bitch" or "I never wear pink pants again"

spuriousmonkey 05-06-04, 08:02 AM I'm not quite sure where to put the avatar competition thread.
what about: about the members?
it has the word 'pictures' in its description
Closet Philosopher 05-06-04, 06:36 PM Ummm i'm going to change my avatar. So it doesn't get lost, i'll post it:
Here it is

It was meant to be funny if anything. I'll see what I can doctor up in Photoshop.
