Australia's population is concentrated entirely along the coast.

This is the case with quite a few countries, including Canada and Russia, where the far north is almost completely empty because of the severe cold, or China and Mongolia, where the deserts are mostly empty.

There's always somebody who just doesn't understand the concept of photoshop and the copy+paste feature.

Just take one satellite, and orbit it around the earth at the same rate the earth turns on the dark side, and record for one day. There, you have a picture of what appears to be a global night.
