Pennies (1p, 1c, whatever your currenecy), what the hell are they used for apart from giving change for £/$19.99 goods. You would only put them in a penny jar.

I just don't see the point. Abolish the penny!

Well, that'd get rid of the whole making the price appear lower than it actually is tactic, where they actually give you the price (ie £500, instead of £499.99)

though you can use them for giving to charity and friends and stuff, to make you feel better though you aren't actually giving away anything.

I'm British, I am isolated, and have never heard of the damned euro, why can't I write in my own national currency?

GIR is the best character from Invader Zim. He is a stupid, no, wait, advanced robot sent to help Zim take over Earth.

    He's hilarious

i think we need to get rid of loose money altogether and work strictly on plastic. instead of checkbooks wed have our own tiny compact credit machines to transfer money between people, there would be no more dimes... pennies... you could get disposable credit in specific aounts for a one time deposit into an account (like sending $5 in a birhtday card to be used like a phone card. entered then thrown away.)

How else would you pay taxes? That is it's sole use. You can not buy anything for a penny. Used to you could but not any more. Think that might be sign of inflation?

It would be far easier to just give up the penny and not mint any more of them. But then how far off is getting rid of the nickel? Before long you are having to devise and mint a whole different set of coins just to keep up with the inflation. :bugeye:

In Australia we have lost the 1c and 2c coins, our smallest now is the 5c.

Nightfall, I think we need cash as well as plastic. Cash limits the extent to which our financial transactions can be traced, which can be useful.

    me

back when foodstamps used to be actual bills, you could go to the store, and sometimes the cashier would accept the foodstamps even if you're not buying food.

nowadays you no longer get foodstamp bills because you get a card.
so everytime your items ring up, the computer determines what can be bought with the foodstamp card or not. sux!

it just gets worse and worse.
like before the mid nineties, non-citizens were able to qualify for foodstamps. nowadays its citizens only.

and lately, in order to get approved for foodstamps, you have to attend this completely ridiculous work program and pretend like you actually want a job so they can sign your paper and enter you into the computer.

as for the pennies, coinage really doesnt make a diff 2 me.

but there are many of commodities out there that depend on pennies for pricing such as gasoline. those people price in fractions of a penny.

i wouldnt want our lowest unit to be a 5 tho.
if 5 is the lowest unit, you might as well just call it a 1.

as for permanent plastic, i dont feel my transactions should be anybody's business. id prefer my transactions to be completely untraceable.
the thing is, my transactions within the peasant class are so insignificant that it might actually be beneficial to have a completely plastic system because it will reduce many shady transactions within the upper brackets.
the commons will also have a better awareness of where their money is going.
lost and stolen cards are by far easier to retrieve than cash.
but imagine how unsafe people felt when they stopped trading with commodoties, and began to use coins for trade.
and how they felt even more uneasy it was decided that paper should be incorporated with the coins.

thats becuase mostly lazy people live off food stamps and never work. i used to live in an apartment full of them. I think those people would be better off on the streets. They'd die quicker, and the rest of us wouldn't have to pay for them as long. food stamps should be issued on a six month period every five years (per person). if ya dont have a job in six months. well. damn. wait five years, cuz you blew it. If they do get a job, then they can continue on foodstamps/welfare but the jpb must last atleast six months. If they loose it within six months.. shitty. wait five years. If they loose it after 2 years or something, they get a six month waiting period. but none of the lifelong deals we see everyday. I also beleive there should be a random drugtest once a month for that six months. Where they call you and say, "hey.. you've got 6 hours to get here. " that number 6 is pretty luck here. lol. and ofcourse. if they fail the drugtest. they're off. i also beleive a woman with more than two children must be required to get some form of birthcontrol to be on an aid system. i dont want to pay for any more of her illigitimate children. sorry if any of this seemed rude to any. i did not mean to offend. im just very opinionated on this subject... as i said, i grew up aroud these people, ther screaming children, and their dirty smelling apartments.

See, the pennies are great to print souvenir logo's and text on in those penny engraving machines all over the country.
