    Hey everyone, how's it going?

I was reading a couple posts on some other forums that I visit regarding health care costs and I came up with an idea that I thought was interesting, and I'm sure that it is not original, however I thought that it would be interesting to discuss. Would people be willing to pay for doctor's education costs in order to receive some type of financial "break" later on? Let me clarify this question. I often hear that doctors accumulate very large debt after medical school. I have heard quotes spanning from $100,000-300,000. When you consider interest on top of this, many people argue that the prices that are charged when you visit the doctor must take into account the debt the doctor has to pay off. I understand that the prices that we encounter are based on a plethora of things and not just this. I was hoping to focus primarily on this issue. If taxpayers paid for doctor's education, and they graduated with a clean slate debt wise, would it be more reasonable to have them expect less in pay? Would this investment by the citizens be beneficial and efficient in the long run? What could we expect from such a doctor?

Many doctors go overseas to get their education for a fraction of the costs of tuition that colleges ask for in America. Why not ask the colleges to lower their rates for those wanting to become doctors to avoid the people going into debt trying to get an education.

There are many, many small towns and small rural regions in the USA that pay off a doctor's debts in exchange for him moving to the area to care for their medical needs. However, just so you know, it's very, very few doctors who are willing to stay on after they've fulfilled their initial contracts. So the small towns have to go thru it all again with another doctor. Is it worth it?

    Haaaa! hahahahaaaa

    LOL

I work at a Medical School that makes MEGA MEGA money offering sub-par MDs to American students who couldn't get into a Med school in the USA and beleive me they pay through the f*cking nose. They do so because they want to return to the USA and get paid the big money its as simple as that.

about $150,000 for a "do it yourself" PBL MD with an additional $15,000 if you want a 3 month anatomy course.

First in line - foreign Canadian and American students pay full fees
Second in line when those places are filled - dumb local students who pay full fees for being dumb
their in line - real good students who don't pay much.

Medical Schools are big BIG business - welcome to capitalism.

i believe australia already has a system similar to what was proposed in the initial post. university graduates have part of their income tax pay off their student loans. of course you have to remember that there are a lot of capitalists out there who feel no obligation to their community and would jump ship in a second if they can make more money.

It's basically free to study medicine in Finland.

Unless you are some freeloader from the US of course. They are thinking about asking foreigners outside the EU for something like 3,500-12,000€ a year.

The system itself seems to propogate itself. Charge a high amount to get the degree, cause you will be compensated later on. Later on one needs to be compensated highly because they have invested much. How long can this cycle grow/sustain itself before it collapses or people have had enough?

What country are you in Michael?
