Okay, MSN Messenger [used] to be ad-free and NOW, suddenly, they are implementing ads and you have to [pay] to get it removed? Arrg! Is everyone on the internet jumping on the 'pay me or I'll annoy you to death' bandwagon?

MSN Messenger has always had ads, I've had it a long time. I've heard nothing about payment policies to have these removed.

That's what messenger plus was good for (until they started having ads). It also has some other really nice functions, like logging. You can get the ad infested one
here. If you want a non-ad-infested one, give me your email and I can send it over.

Now this is where I would plug a site that exquisitely generated a few cracks/patchs for the new MSN Messenger. It's still only officially out in Beta.

I could get told off for telling you where to find it... by who... I don't know but some people would complain I'm sure.

. o O (Wonders if anyone will get that)

Boo ho. I fall to my knees crying.

I wonder whether you people know about the fact that providing online services can cost a lot of money. If your to selfish to pay for the service, the supplier can ether kick you out or send you advertising.

I think there all getting on the “Pay me or Ill go broke and then you definably won’t get to use me anymore you ungrateful bunch of free loaders.” Bandwagon.

Wait, you're telling me that even after I have paid ~$300 for Windows XP that they should be allowed to advertise on a product that is supposedly included with the O/S? That is the largest, stinkiest, steamiest pile of crap I have ever heard of.

I can't believe so many people like Trillion. I hated that program. I hated it so much I went to the lengths of banning its use in my IRC channels. Sure it's small, but the fact that it has so little functionality for each of the chat protocols it supports was enough for me to be turned off of it for life.

    For
You don't get ongoing life time support. You purchased a product that has the ability to accesses a service. You did not purchases a subscription.

    Poor Microsoft..

Next time a buy a car I should expect the fuel and maintenance for the lifetime of the car to be free, and that no matter who badly I treat it I expect instance service. Also as soon as a better model comes out I expect to get at least 50% discount.

They are trying to give you the service for free. But it has to make money. And then people complain.

I think Microsoft should triple the price of everything. The world is so reliant on it that people are forced to buy them.. Well within their rights.

Its a wonder their not praised for their altruistic policies.

Just remember when it comes down to $300 OS's Microsoft has that EULA agreement to fall back on. The one that basically states that they can no be held legally accountable for security issues, loss of data and overall hairloss.

Just by clicking the I Agree button virtually undermines every right you have as a consumer, and does mean that you have the potential to suffer crappy advertisements with no legal method to complain.

Put heres something that could be potentiall annoying, what if the EULA agreement has somehow been corrupted by a scratch on the disc, does it mean your bound by an agreement you can't see?

No, a license has been purchased allowing limited use of said software.
Why? Do all products or services make money? How much does MS make from Internet Explorer, which does not push ads?

Yep and when you buy a car they don't guaranty against theft, You buy the car with locks but you don't have the right to claim from the manufacturer if someone worked out how to get past it. It is your responsibility to keep private data secure. You make the connection to the Internet, its your responsibility. The EULA agreement is secondary to local law. If you feel you have been mislead then you have rights.

It is not the software companies responsibility to make disks scratch proof. They take all due care to make their disks well. If you then give it a scratch its your fault. If it has a scratch out of the box send it back and get it replaced..

Hair loss is genetic.. Blame you mother.

    What's your point?
EULA agreements & law is only useful to the extent that they can be enforced, are they obeyed at ALL times? Mislead?Rights, yeah right

Being able to access certain support sections on their website is also a service that you receive for free without ads. So are the various Internet games that are now bundled with WinXP. Neither of these involve advertisements.

Getting Trillian won't help! I still get crappy pop-up messages. Actually I just got MSN6.0 beta this morning. I love it. I don't think I'll revert back to Trillian. This is so sweet, it's for the shallow, yes, but I love it!

I don't appear to get these Pop-ups when I have Kerio Firewall running...I'm starting to think it stops them *crosses fingers*
