Tatiana Siegel notes the strange tale of Paramount's Pam Adby at Variety.com:

More than anything else, this story should hopefully explain what's wrong with Hollywood.

Adby (left), and Perna: There's no accounting for taste?

    Okay, so ...

    • Adby was romantically involved with Perna? I think if you're a showbiz exec, matters of taste are relevant to your competence.

    • Adby produced Garden State? She ought to be indicted for that.

    • Adby has no plans to step down from her post; Paramount has yet to comment.

I'd say this pretty much encapsulates what's wrong with Hollywood. After all, Paramount brought her up from Jersey Films last year, and recent rumors suggest that she is in line to be promoted again, to succeed John Lesher at Paramount Vantage.

For some reason, I'm of the strange notion that producing a terrible film and banging a mobster aren't indicative of good taste.

Oh, right ... this is Hollywood. If it's cheap enough to start with, $26.7m is an impressive number at the box office, especially in the "year of Ben Stiller".

So ... yeah. Taste, while subjective, isn't even a consideration for most of Hollywood.

Many of us know this already. But, well, the one good thing we can say about Adby's predicament is that it provides a shining example an excellent reminder.
