Orleanders thread gave me the idea to post this regarding pain and reactions.

Do you feel pain when you are scared?

when something scares me suddenly i feel a little painful twinge in what feels like every single nerve in my body.. for example when someone is messing with you when your holding a needle or something similar and they Shout OW! and you jump thinking you really did hurt them - do you actually feel pain as if you were literally shocked? maybe everyone does and thats where the term comes from.
But I've asked someone else the same question before and they thought I was nuts, so where to you fall?

    do you?

actually the "shock" your decribing origionated as a missues of the MEDICAL term shock which refers to lack of perfusion

When you have a "shock" (emotional) you can exisbite some of the same symtoms as medical shock because your activating the sympethetic nervious system. Your body releases adrenilen, heart rate goes up, blood is derverted to the brain and mussles to alow you to fight the danger or run ect

In medical shock, your heart rate goes up to preserve the blood flow, blood is deverted to the heart, brain and away from the mussles, skin and digestive tracked. There are alot more medical prossess but this gives you the idea

Yep. I don't feel that as pain though, so 'no' to the OP.

Years ago there was an accident at my husband's work site. He was so frantic trying to get everyone out and make sure they were safe, he didn't realize he had skin blistering up and falling off his hand from a severe burn.

I don't think he was in shock, I think the adreneline overrode and pain signals his brain was sending.

actually thats wrong, i was disputing the origion of the word not the rest of the post. It is possable to feel pain from "shock". Over stimulation of the adrenial
glands and to much cortisol COULD result in mussle spasims which WOULD cause pain

edit to add that wasnt aimed at you Orleander

I am not disputing that, I am merely saying that I don't experience a shock as pain
