I had a quick look through some post errors but couldn't find the one I was looking for so thought I'd try here, does anyone know what 2 short beeps followed by 1 long and 1 short means? I then get a two tone noise and thats it. I'm guessing video as the monitor isn't bringing anything up it just stays black and doesn't detect anything.
This happened after the computer telling me to update the bios from the manufacturer which then failed.
Either way the computer won't boot.

*sigh* I'll leave on some simple math, Dell + Vista = worst computer I've ever had!

The error codes are specific to your motherboard and BIOS. What do you have?

It doesn't seem I can find out, it mentions all the specs on the dell website but doesn't give a name. Its a dimension E521 if that helps.

So let me get this straight. You updated the BIOS, and then when you restarted your computer, it didn't work?

You say that you suspect a video problem. Do you have onboard video, or a separate card?

I'm guessing it's either a problem with your video card, or your BIOS itself. I would lean more strongly to an actual BIOS problem, since the ordeal started after you updated it.

Yeh I think it's the bios, seeing as the beep code doesn't correspond with other things I'd suspect(video card mainly, maybe RAM) it may just be a general failure of the POST because of the bios. The computer is being sent off for repair now, I've been informed it's the motherboard after trying some troubleshooting. I was hoping to get it fixed without resorting to that however, and sometimes the forum's good for that so it was worth a try. Thanks anyways.

I guess It's just frustration and disappointment, I'm sure you know what it's like going back to your old PC after getting a new one.

Hope you had a boot block protected bios chip.
