Hi, i am not a "PC" dude so bare with me.
Could you "PC" dude recommend a good virus protection software. I am currently running Norton Anti-virus and supposedly it sucks (from what i have heard). Also a good spyware and adware killer program....something that is stable (the last one did some weird screw ups to internet explorer).

I am currently running Norton Internet security and i would like to know is there any better or should i just stick with this one.

Any other recommendation to keep the PC running smoothly (reg cleaners etc etc etc)

    Thanks.

Norton is by far the best (although not the cheapest) antivirus software out there currently. Apart from what people have said how do you feel it has performed for you? I have never had a problem with norton, it has always been very good to me.

I use Norton Internet Security too. As far as I'm concerned I will never change. I love the built in ad killer it has. I also love how it's so easy to open/close particular ports/ranges of ports.

I've always thought norton was the best anit-virus. I use "ad-aware" to get rid of Spyware. I the google toolbar to kill popups (plus you have google search on your toolbar, I like that). For security I use a router (linksys) which doubles as a switch(hub like).

Once in a while I run norton's system checkup stuff. Oh, and I make sure that I've got the most recent driver and updates on everything as well as possible.

I use AVG. It's fantastic and FREE! It's taken care of all of my viruses (including the ones that Norton failed to fix,) and has constant updates. They're #1 in my book. You don't need to pay for updates and support with them.

Spybot - search and destroy is my adware program -- and, like AVG, not only works great but is completely free.

Is there a spybot virus too? The only time I ever used AVG is actually found a virus called spybot. That sounds kind of odd. Anyway...the one time I did use AVG it worked pretty good except for the fact that there was no way to scan individual files/folders. If you wanted to scan a single file you had to scan your whole hard drive. Actually, you do have to pay for support with AVG. That's what comes with the purchased version of AVG.

There probably is a virus named spybot. Although I'm not completely sure. Chances are that there is.

BTW, What version of AVG were you using? I can scan individual files and folders simply by right clicking. Clearing the viruses out of those folders is another story, since a scan of the entire drive is necessary to ensure that it hasn't 'invaded.' Normally you can just deleted the infected files anyways. So it's no hassle, and COMPLETELY free!

There are bios viruses that can yes. And thoerectically a virus using low-level harddrive parameters, or CPU overclocking hacks could as well.
