After 3 months of not having a computer my friend manages to fix it for me. It worked good for a month and now it's acting up again.

I turned it off the other day and the next day when I turned it on, it gave me the message "windows was not shut down properly....blah blah....this may be due to new hardware or software installed....blah blah."

It gave me the option to boot in safe mode, safe mode with network, safe mode with command prompt, boot last known good settings, and boot normally. I tried them all. When I make a selection the computer reboots and this message comes up again.

What's the deal? It was working fine and then all of a sudden....

    Yes it's WinXP

Are your updates current, and have you applied the patch for the blaster virus?

    :m: Peace.

I'm not so sure. I asked a friend and he says my HD might be corrupt. If this is the case I would like to get a new HD and then use the old one as a slave. That way I can transfer the files over, have them scanned for viruses. This would be nice so I don't lose all my files. Does this sound plausible?
Or can I use a boot up disk and try to diagnose the problem from there?
