    Oscar Pistorius banned from Olympics

I find this interesting. It's also very pertinent to the times we live in in that we will now begin to have to look at the advantage that prosthetics (bionics) give a competitor and not the disadvantage.

And when will the time come that people actually make these kinds of changes intentionally in order to give them an advantage.

Instead of the "Olympics" and "Special Olympic" we'll end up with a third one: "The Extra Special Olympics".

One of the coolest things I like about this news is that it's a clear case of a man-made prosthetic being "better" than a normal limb--- albeit a far cry from a realistic looking cyborg leg.

I agree with the Olympic committee. As opposed to "very special Olympics", I think they should simply create a new category (class) for people with modifications - kinda like how they have weight divisions with boxing.

The Olympics have become a joke, the pharmacological modifications that go on, have long ago taken over the Completition, it is just right now the latest cheating hasn't been detected, it is always the war between detection and the new drug, and as soon a s the latest super drug is found and its use banned, the newest unknown drug in already in use.

The only way to end the use of performance enhancing drugs is to make all Olympic Athletes enter the Monastery of the Olympic, run by the Olympic Committee, and no drugs are allowed at all, no injections no oral supplements, only regular food, water, milk, nothing else.

There is a difference between steroids and this leg. Every sportsman can decide if they go the steroid way or not (taking chances), but only this guy can put prostatic legs on.

That's not entirely true. Hypothetically speaking, athletes could voluntarily have their legs removed so their just like Pistorius's.

The wiki on him says he was born without a fibula in both legs, and needed amputation below the knee.

The wiki also shows comparative times.

I wonder if his prosthetic legs will be considered weapons in prison. Will he have to replace them with plastic ones (which may also be removed and hit someone in the back of the head with).

He's been moved to a special handicapped section of a prison. Apparently he no longer wants to be treated like every one else. And why would he wear his running legs in prison instead of normal prosthetic legs?
