It appears that an 86 year-old man mistook the gas for the brakes while driving his car and plowed through a farmers market in Santa Monica, killing eight and critically injuring many more. I have always had a laugh at the old people in front of me, going half the speed limit, and, even at a similar incedent in my town when an old woman ploughed into Woodstocks pizza ("The harder i pressed the brake, the faster the car went!?"). But EIGHT PEOPLE killed is just too far.

My grandoparents knew when it was time to stop driving (thankfully), but i suppose this incedent shows that many of the elderly are incapable of making such a judgement. I'm not sure what, if anything, should be done, but this really pisses me off.

What do you think?

an incredibly difficult re-test at a certain age.
I agree, this kind of thing is just stupid. A woman got knocked through a shop front by some decrepit old hag not so long ago around here. People should be tested properly again in their old age if they desperately want to keep driving, but hard enough to weed out anything less than proffessionals and anyone who's work depends on it.

What happened was an elderly lady suffered a heart attack while at the wheel and driving. She drove through the crowd and was only stopped when a quick thinking individual drove his vehicle in front of her car when it exited from the crowd. The lady was the sheriff's mother...
