On the mobo, I want something with no legacy ports. I found one in the abit-MAX2, but it's a bit older technology (I think no dual-channel). Any other PC mobos skip the serial/parallel/game(gah!)?

What's a good serial ATA hard drive? Thinking of maybe getting 2 for a RAID 0 set, so smaller is better. Any serial ATA CD drives? Trying to get all legacy out tha tI can.

Legacy is a rather vague term

If you mean the long black 16-bit ISA slots, those died out about 5 years ago with the introduction of the shorter white 32-bit PCI slots.

Many motherboards support hardware legacy use for things like USB mice/keyboards that aren't exactly Plug & Play without drivers.

Maxtor, Seagate, and Western Digital are making serial ATA harddrives. I don't know about IBM/Hitachi or Samsung.

I wouldn't worry about serial ATA CD drives. I believe Phillips unveiled a working prototype at the last CeBit show a few months back. but I think it will be awhile before serial ATA CD drives are produced in large quantaties.

I've still got a motherboard that has a port for a 9-pin DIN keyboard, and serial mouse if anyone is interested.
