http://www.cbc.ca/news/viewpoint/vp_binks/20031027.html Pseudo-feminist angst at it's most hilarious.
Yes, revealing clothing shows western contempt for women. We should be more like Islamic countries, and show our respect for women by forcing them to wear Burkas.
Yes, men are sex objects to many women. Women aren't as visually stimulated as men, but many still like to look at handsome men. And then there are gay men. An entire industry exists to cater to their view that other men are sex objects. I once read that the majority of the readers of Playgirl were gay men
I was going to say that. Coffee Of course men are sexy, don't you ever listen to women talking? You never seen a man dressed to kill?
You're missing my point. She's playing a pompous-ass academic feminist so that she can talk about clothes. "Ohmygod, did you see her, she's dressed like a slut!" Am I the only one who sees this as hilarious?
i wouldn't say it's hilarious. but she is assuming what other women think and want and generalizing to all of them. her bottom line is basically: women dress for sex but they don't want it. first off, it doesn't apply to everyone. not all teenagers are dressed like sluts. secondly, i wore a catholic school uniform...mandatory skirt length is <1 inch above top of knee and everything had to be measured and tailored by their own tailors. she also wrongly assumes that women do not want sex. that stereotype just happens to fit in with her angel/slut duality theme. irony is fun boys and girls. but overall, it's not too bad a piece. if you think men aren't sex objects, you haven't opened a GQ lately. their ads qualify as porn.
