A recent off the cuff comment by President Obama sort of puzzled me: "They talk about me like a dog" That's a weird expression. I suppose he's saying that people aren't showing him the respect he deserves as president or that they are dehumanizing him. Anyway, I've never really heard anyone use that expression before, or so I thought. Until I realized he was quoting Jimi Hendrix. STONE FREE EVERYDAY IN THE WEEK I'M IN A DIFFERENT CITY IF I STAY TOO LONG PEOPLE TRY TO PULL ME DOWN THEY TALK ABOUT ME LIKE A DOG TALKIN' ABOUT THE CLOTHES I WEAR BUT THEY DON'T REALIZE THEY'RE THE ONES WHO'S SQUARE HEY! AND THAT'S WHY YOU CAN'T HOLD ME DOWN I DON'T WANT TO BE DOWN I GOTTA MOVE HEY STONE FREE DO WHAT I PLEASE STONE FREE TO RIDE THE BREEZE STONE FREE I CAN'T STAY I GOT TO GOT TO GOT TO GET AWAY.... http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric....jimi-hendrix/9d7c41d9a67e3c5b4825695f0024e4a5 Stone Free was first released in the US as a B side to "If Six Were Nine". Interestingly, that song also seems oddly appropriate:: White-collar conservatives flashing down the street Pointing their plastic finger at me. They're hoping soon my kind will drop and die, But I'm gonna wave my freak flag high . . . HIGH! Hah, hah Falling mountains just don't fall on me Point on mister Buisnessman, You can't dress like me. Nobody know what I'm talking about I've got my own life to live I'm the one that's gonna have to die When it's time for me to die So let me live my life the way I want to..... http://www.lyricsfreak.com/j/jimi hensharedrix/#
AWESOME! I hope this is not a coincidence it would be totally awesome if he could quote the god of guitar more!
I think Obama is a piece of crap of a politician, but I'm not concerned with him quoting a rock star. If he was quoting Marx or Hitler in a positive way, it would be a big deal. But Jimi Hendrix? Not an issue for me.
True, but that isn't exclusive to Obama or Democrats in general. There are a lot of people from various political parties and perspectives that support big government in its various forms. If we bothered to point that out to these people, their responses would probably be something to the effect of, "It's not fascism/communism/theocracy when we do it!"
no its just "big government" does not equal fascism/communism/theocracy , its like your saying a cat is a tiger/lion/leopard!
Myth: Liberalism is socialism, and socialism is big government. Fact: Liberals believe in private ownership of the means of production; socialists, public.
Very fair statement to make, and that is the essence of the whole Tea Party movement. Of which quite a few here don't understand. It isn't a repub/dem thing to supporters of the T.P., it is a government overreach to say the least.
Good link! This is exactly why I don't call lefties liberal. The word has been bastardized and doesn't mean what the left typically represents. I suspect both sides are responsible for the bastardization of the word.
The people who were around when it happened - starting around 1980, completed around 2000 - generally give most of the credit to Newt Gingrich, in his many overt and very effective media efforts such as this one: http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article4443.htm He was taking the baton from Reagan, of course, and acting as mouthpiece for people like Frank Luntz, but his contribution seemed key at the time and still.
