With all this war with Iraq talk and everything, nuclear weapons are on alot of people's minds. I've read this in sci-fi books so if not realistic, just tell me.

With the potential risk of nukes flying every which way (very possible, admit it) we need some sort of independent or UN-led agency whose task it is to destroy nukes during flight, but destroy them so the nuclear material doesn't leak out somehow. Maybe a laser based satellite system? Something like that?

What do you guys think? If my idea (well, other peoples' too) is really ignorant then just flame me or something k?

That ain't gonna happen via an independant org or UN. USA was working on a sort of device like that though.

I'm pretty sure that project is still going on too. A colossal wase of money, but still really cool to have giant lasers flying around.

Don't worry about the nukes. It's the biologics that would prove most devastating.

    Peace.

    Goofyfish,
I have to disagree. Nuclear weapons can destoy the world, literally. Biological weapons can kill upwards of 95% plus of the worlds population. But not all countries or places would be infected..isolated areas, tribes, etc. But the world itself would not be destroyed.
