I'm looking for notebooks with no OS, but cannot seem to find any.
I have looked through the Asus site, and all of theirs show an OS installed in their specs.

Where can I get a notebook computer with no OS?

Take a look at this, (http://mcelrath.org/laptops.html) but what difference does it really make?

I like the Asus one. It appears they do not sell no-OS.
That site has a list of vendors for no-OS, but then says that there is no way to identify hardware probs. If I get a no-OS, it should come with all the driver CD yes?
Then I can install my OS, and install the drivers.

What would you reccomend in terms of no-OS?
It should be at least a core duo.

The new chip's are great, i have an HP that I am happy with, but it is not dual core. One thing to consider is the screen dimension's, widescreen vs. more of a square one depending on the app's you plan to run like alot of 3d app's have interfaces where square is better.

I think the OS is pretty much figured into the price, and you can format it.

I would just buy one you like, the OS probably isn't going to make a huge difference in price. then you can test it and make sure it works before you do anything with it. you can always use the existing OS as 1 half of a partitioned hard drive, and boot what you want. for example, if you buy one with windows, you may want windows for some things, but install whatever you prefer as well.

Why do you not want an OS to come with it? Already own a legit copy of your OS?

I was under the impression that you can format any notebook you wanted? I know when you buy Dell, it comes with a free copy of XP home, but it's not like you have to use it or anything.

Free? Lawl.

Nothing is free. It might say it's free.. but someone is paying for it. And where did the guys that pay for it get the money? At some point... you.

looks good.

Well, imo you have to 2gb of memory but a low clock speed on cpu so maybe you can get one w\ 1gb and faster cpu. Also what type of cpu is it? with laptops (not that i am an expert) you allways need to be conscious of heat, 'cause that can sometimes be a problem...especially when using the battery....see if it come w\ a fire extiguisher :D

AND I am not sure how much benefit a 2 core cpu is when running a single aplication, maybe someone here can answer that.

As stated it is a Core 2 CPU.
Standard Intel notebook processor.

I don't know much about dell, but you cannot simply format a laptop hard drive. You need to install all the drivers for it. I would assume, a laptop with no OS would come with a driver CD. Therefore, when you install your OS, you can install all the hardware drivers for the laptop.

pretty sure you can with any OS set up disk. really to say for sure if the system is right for you you have to decide what you want to use it for, faster cpu=less battery time etc., of course faster cpu= faster render's :)

Waht are you going to use it for and what os.?

Windows XP Pro SP2
Perhaps eventually Vista.
