I feel that Kim Jong II is borderline insane and could cause possible world destruction if he continues to build a nuclear arsenal.

I have read a couple of articles on this guy and how eccentric he is and he does not sound like a very stable leader.

My greatest concern comes from an enemy who absolutely has no regard for human life and veiws himself as immortal.

How do you feel about this?

The man may be crazy, but at least he isn't taking shit from George W like every other goddamn succesful politician on the planet. That's the best I can say for him.

there is a big difference from taking shit and implying mass destruction.

Under our doctrine of preemption, the U.S. can attack countries it thinks might support terrorism, whether or not they have actually done so.

Put yourself in Kim Jong Il's shoes. The Bush administration breaks off negotiations as soon as it comes into office, denounces you and, even though you are no nastier than you were the year before, declares you part of an "axis of evil." Then the administration goes after a member of that "axis," even though you are much closer to developing weapons of mass destruction than Iraq. (You probably already have a couple.)

The best self- defense plan for Kim Jong Il is to be dangerous.

He has done a good job of building up the People's Army - a world class fighting force with nasty sharp teeth. The People's Army has biochemical weapons, nearly a thousand scuds, several ICBM's, some 60 submarines equipped with cruise missiles, a huge stockpile of shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles, several thousand heavy guns, and most importantly, over one million soldiers.

What's left? Cook up a few nukes while the US is busy with Iraq to make yourself even more dangerous.

    :m: Peace.

If Uncle Kim is borderline, he is on the wrong side of the border.

my point is that the guy is a flake and his metal state appears to be very unstable. he is merely provoking the US and as a result there is going to be another war after the one we are soon to be involved in now.

we cannot allow the world to arm themselves again with any weapons of mass desctruction.

the last person you want to do battle with is one who simply does not care. What do they have to lose?

If we cannot "allow" this, then the United Stated is certainly sending the wrong message. We preach abstinence to countries that do not possess nuclear capability while we consider developing newer devices for ourselves.

Seems a mixed message to me.

    :m: Peace.

Yeah you gotta love their "Mini Nuke" idea.

The idea of a mini nuke is ridiculous, what ever happen to tanks and jets and soldiers? It's like, why fight someone hand to hand in a fight when you can just shoot them? Mini nukes, big nukes all created unintended causalities, but i guess this is okay if your American.

    Korea Nightmare

This is a dark thought, but I can't help thinking about it. How crazy is Kim Jong Il? What if he decides, as US forces engage with Saddam, that it is the best time ever to to order some fried Seoul food?

He'd start a nuclear war with us, lose and millions of people would die. not the first time it's happened (WWII)

I think Kim is taking the only route he can.
America doesn't care if you can or cant defend yourself or if your a threat if you have something they want they will blow you up and take it.
By not only being a force to be reconed with but flaunting it he makes sure people are aware of him and America will think twice about attacking him too soon and cant just turn around on him later and do a Sadam on him, well, not as easily.

And to be honest America started it (sounds childish don't it).
As i belive the fridge magnet fish guy..goofy fish? pointed out in his post earlier.
Plus the Fact China has vested interest in keeping Korea stable and S.Korea as well for very obvious reasons.

He may be nuts but hes acting a lot smarter than a lot of the people in power seem to be at the moment. (IMHO)

North Korea is the next tiger to be delt with after Iraq. Pray to God that this is resolved peacefully, that Kim Jong-Il wakes up from his dream and realizes that his pursuit of nuclear weapons is dangerous lunacy.

A war with North Korea is the most freightening prospect I can concieve. I am literally mortified at the thought.

So what is Uncle Kim up to?
His country's economy has colapsed. Thousands are fleeing to China at the risk of there lives, even if they do make it. If the China/N.K. border was like the US/Mexico border, Uncle Kim would be very lonely.
So what does he want? Dominance over N.E. Asia? Most unlikely. "Unification" of Korea? Nah.
MONEY! That's what he wants. Lots of money...
He can't go on enjoying his current life stile at N.K.s current rate and direction. How does he get money? Steal it at the point of a nuke. Your money or your lives. Give me the money and I promise to reform.
So, you see, he is not as dangerous as Saddam who has all the money he wants and an economy capable of maintaining his life stile. He wants to dominate directly his corner of the world and, indirectly, the rest of the world (you and I).
