I decided to post this information in the case if it is not show in the USA.

There was no properly worked out strategy for the key longer term objective of transforming it into a stable, prosperous nation that the Blair-Bush vision held out.

In the rush to war, and in the blur of ideology, both capitals abandoned a principle that has been an iron law of warfare since Napoleon: Never take the first step without planning for what comes afterwards.

The plan to rebuild Iraq was so vague that those given the job of reconstruction turned to an out-of-date Lonely Planet guide book for help and inspiration.

Former American ambassador Barbara Bodine, who was given the job of helping to reconstruct Iraq, said: "It is a great guide book, but it should not be the basis of an occupation."

WHAT '94 & 2007 BOOKS SAY..

Visiting Iraq

1994 Iraq is steeped in history. Since the 1950s it has expanded enormously. There are a number of interesting places to visit.

2007 One of the most dangerous places on Earth. Westerners are targets for kidnapping and suicide attacks. This is not a place for a holiday.

On Baghdad

1994 Since the 1950s the city has expanded enormously. Middle-class neighbour-hoods have sprung up. Visit the race track and fast-food restaurants.

2007 The city has fallen on hard times - the response of a nation's anger against another occupation by a foreign power

Hopping on the bus

1994 Iraq has a good road network and there are regular buses between towns and cities.

2007 Much of the road network in Iraq is damaged. Public transport is not safe to use.

Hailing a cab

1994 Shared taxis can be used between towns and cities. Both ordinary and shared cabs are orange and cream in Iraq.

2007 At the time of writing Iraq was not safe for independent travel.

Taking in the sights

1994 Museums in Iraq are excellent. Many are free and are home to numerous interesting items.

2007 Most of the museums have been looted in the aftermath of the 2003 war Museums may or may not be open.

Read before you go

1994 There are many books available offering a fascinating insight into Iraqs ancient sites.

2007 Institute for War and Peace Reporting offers all the latest news from Iraq.

On qetting away

1994 Iraqi airways is the main airline. There are international airports at Baghdad and Basra.

2007 The spiralling descent into Baghdad International, necessitated by constant insurgent attacks on aircraft, means that only those who absolutely must fly into Baghdad do so.

The solo traveller

1994 Explorers can find overland routes to Iraq from Jordan and Iran There is a rail line connecting Baghdad to Mosul and Basra.

2007 You'd be mad to go there.

Oh, I think many do, even if you don't.
It's important to be aware of such things in order be better judges next time, when maybe it's time for Iran.

you listed negatives of Iraq that come as of now...but has Iraq really been better off before? The problem with the country is not its design but its chaotic people...they are the ones who need change...have they changed for the worse or the better?

The first half of the post is untrue. The second half means nothing. Pre-Saddam: rape rooms, torture rooms, fear, death/destruction for disobedience, Sons of Saddam from hell, dictatorship....

Since Saddam's demise: freedom, elections, no more torture/rape rooms/dictatorship, progress...

The Iraqi people are good people. They're really coming around with reporting suspected terrorists. It's the evil terrorists that are the problem. The ones who don't want democracy. Don't want freedom...:(

Once we destroy every last terrorist, things will be better. :bravo:

Sandy...please be kind to understand that you have just written a death sentence for yourself. USA is a terrorist just as Al Queda is. CIA or not CIA...BlackWater or Not...use of white phosphorous in North of Iraq or not...it is all USA forces.

Sandy's 'freedom' is to be fettered with the shackles of Christianity, enslavement to a delusion, living a fairy tale. Thanks, but no thanks, sandy.

Once we destroy every last terrorist, things will be better.

Not until we rid the world of Christianity, it won't be.

Christianity is a choice. No shakles. No delusions. No fairy tales. Just an awesome life! :worship:

You too can have the awesome life but you're too busy mocking Him.

No one will rid the world of Christianity. Many have tried. All have failed. All will continue to fail. :yay:

Jesus is coming back soon. Be ready.

It is a life of stupidity, a life of delusion, a life of lies, a life of slavery, a life of hatred and bigotry. If you choose these things, then choose Christianity.

You too can have the awesome life but you're too busy mocking Him.

I don't mock that which has never been shown to exist. I mock your ridiculous claims.

No one will rid the world of Christianity. Many have tried. All have failed. All will continue to fail.

Christianity will be its own undoing. It will eventually fade away, just like any other cult.

Jesus is coming back soon. Be ready.

More empty, delusional threats of mythical beings reappearing. One day you may leave the kindergarten playground, but it looks like it won't be any time soon.

the point is not whether US will be able to stabilize Iraq. things are looking better as of late, and i think it will improve. maybe within 5 years there will be an end to infighting and there will be a stable government there. infrastructure is replaceable. the US will gladly pay for it, and US companies will build it.

the real issue is that the government and people in Iraq might not be as friendly as the US had hoped before the invasion.

- stable oil source
- military bases
- diplomatic support

those 3 might not materialize as Iraqis don't seem to be that greatful for the US' sacrifice of life and treasure

What was the reason for the U.S. to go to war again?

First it was because Sudan had Weapons of Mass destruction. Second it was to free the people of Iraq from the horrible dictatorship of Sudan Hussein.
But how could that be if they had no plan for setting up a new Iraqi Government?

No wonder the world hates the country I live in. And to tell you the truth I don't think anyone here likes the way this country is ran either. Stuff like this makes me mad.

Also nobody here trusts our own Government because they never tell us anything. I still don't know the real reason why our government went to war on Iraq and came up with a War on Terrorism that can never be won because there is no true enemy. The enemy I guess is who ever they say it is.
