Though I am no longer a frequent poster here, nonetheless I like to look in from time to time.

I notice several omissions to the start-up page as it is presented to me: critically, there are no light-bulbs that would tell me when a new post has been...er...posted.

Less important, but still annoying, is I have no button like "new thread" (or whatever it said). There may be others missing too, I can't remember what they might have been.

Is it me (using Firefox under Linux) or is it a forum issue?

PS If it is an issue my end, bear in mind I am almost totally computer illiterate

"New Thread" (for creating one) is available to the top left, just below "Encyclopaedia" once you're in the sub-forum in which you wish to create the thread.

Ouch! It's worse than I had first thought. I have no buttons that allow me to quote other posts, or edit or delete mine own. But the little list (bottom left) informs me I can do all these things.

Must be me, but I have no idea how to fix it it.

    Please help!

If you can't see buttons, then it's likely you aren't seeing graphics properly.

I know one particular nasty virus I had to patch (Conficker) actually disables images loading in the browser so you can't tell what you are loading up. I'm not saying you have this virus however because it would mean no graphics for any site would load and you'd find that Google's returned links from searches would all be hijacked.

I'd ask if you can see the Sciforums logo at the top of the page and query as to whether or not you've somehow blacklisted images from the Sciforums.com domain.

Stryder, you're a genius! Somehow, possibly in a moment of incomplete sobriety, I had added SciForums to my "block images" list for Firefox.

All is now well, thank you
