My brother was just watching MTV and a questionable advertisement came on. It claimed that every one in three Americans has HIV and isn't aware of it. Although I'm not sure my suspicions are founded, I think this seems extremely specious.
I mean, ONE IN THREE? Veritable, or bogus?

Almost half of Americans are over fifty or under sixteen, the demographic groups with the lowest HIV rates. That would mean that two thirds of the other people have it. Not plausible.

There are a couple of demographic groups that they fret over because the HIV educational message isn't being picked up, and the culture suppresses both condom use and talking about sex. One is Latinos. They have what is considered to be an alarming HIV rate, and it isn't anywhere near 33 percent.

This just seems like one more piece of faxlore.
