View Full Version : No Unsolicited Screenplays

I have been working (not enough) on a screenplay.
Hopefully I will have it done (or at least ready for treatment) within a few months.
It is my goal to have Kevin Smith read (and want to produce) it.

I stopped by the comic book store (hoping in vain that he would be there).
Of course he wasn't in, so I spoke to Walt Flannigan(sp?).
If you don't know who he is, he is a good friend of Kevin's.
He has been in all his movies ("Tell 'em Steve-Dave!") and manages his and Jay Mewes' store for them.

Anyway, Walt said that for legal reasons Kevin won't accept unsolicited screenplays, which is understandable.

So my question is:
What now?

Do I just ger a literary agent?
Do literary agents handle screenplays, or would that be someone different?
How would I know who is good and who is crap?
Do they work on commission, fee or a combination of both?

Any advice?

I am also writing a screenplay and I have just started looking into marketing and representation. There are several good books on the subject. Check out Amazon.com, a bookstore, or your local Library.

Get an agent - unsolicited screenplays are lawsuits waiting to happen.

Dumb suggestion.

Prozak ,is right. If you really think you have something good, develop it yourself. If you think you have only one good script in you, then you are not a writer. SBT.
You could create a Flash 6 version, which would get your name into the public domain (has legal advantages as well..). Its work, but proves to others you have what it takes, and gives you a portfolio. Literary agents are sharks, you need commercial success to get someone worthwhile. Don't forget to put lots (relevant) commercial links if you start getting hits, this may make you some CASH.

See the book 'Bored of the Rings' (they did it for the money) and www.thinkzoo.com a piss-take of the British, Channel 4 'Big Brother' show. Its very funny if you are Irish...
