I just caught few sound bites a few days ago about an upcoming series, STARTREK ENTERPRISE.

I have no idea why Howard is posting all of this, but let it be noted that my original message to him was in reply to one he had sent me.

Howard: Is there any need to conduct this argument publicly, where it will get lost as more people contribute, or can we have a private discussion?

I think, the political, ethnic issues should go to to Politics arena. There is a lot of stuff that is not politically correct to say it. May be we should have a separate forum specifically for "Politically Incorrect" debates. Then we can discuss Native American (not American Indian, a mistake in name that has stuck for eternity), Pre-Christians (Jews?), Christians, Males, Females and so on....In each case there are issues that should be resolved otherwise there will be resentment and problems and consequences in each relationship. It can be done without flame.

Now back to Startrek. The original series was written in such a way that the power ratios were maintained. What I mean is when a person or technology had certain power or abilities or properties, it was maintained throughout the episode. Recent series writers have problems with that. For example, Hercules can throw a few ton size monster to the orbit but will get knock down by a mere human! Or that Voyger computer can produce real human brain computations in the holodeck but can not think to protect itself.

Hope the new Startrek stories are consistent to todays development in expert systems, AI, genetics, biotechnology, cryogenics, nanotechology, molecular science, optronics, material science and most of all computers - And keeps up with Moores Law. By 2050, we will have computers that will be better that Voygers. Let us see what the systems look like in 2150!

It would seem at that date there would be no need to ask the computer for the answer. It would probably be able to ask the question for us at the time it was occurring as a thought process to us. It is well known that we emit pheromones, that skin changes in result of body functions (to mind is color by the influx of blood), and that there are many other give-aways to give insight into what a person might be feeling, thinking, or even prehaps having ideas of. At such a time in the future, i would think that it would be reasonable that such a computer would have access to these kind of sensors to detect what was going on with it's charges. (I can not think that we would be on level with such)

You are right O! wet1, that far out if computer technology progress the way we predict today, then your scenario is correct. However, if we decide computers are a threat to society such that we can not give them ability to think, then that will not happen. Only raw processing power will be there.

I haven't heard anything else other than Scot Bakula will be playing as the captain and I have heard a rumor that Gary Graham from Alien Nation will be playing as a Vulcan Ambassador.:confused:

I have heard that it would take place within 150 years of the discovery of warp drive. But not much else.

The more closer they come to our time, fans will be more critical. I hope they keep the technology in perspective. They said they would.

I missed the Star Trek episodes when they first came out. This was due to several reasons. I worked a lot, double shifts when I could. When I did get to see them they were in black and white as we did not have a color tv. It was not until much later that I learned of the red shirt stuff. I did get to watch the series on Sci-fi channel. So you can see how long it took for me to actually see them. Deep Space Nine did not hold much attraction to me. I missed the start and every thing I saw after didn't connect. Some of Voyager I liked, some I didn't. I do hope to catch the new series if nothing more than to see what is going on. Being as it is closer to date I think I will be more interested.

Using language that puts down not only a beautiful religion, but also a nation, and international community, a lineage of great leaders, etc., is especially sickening. Anti-semitic language has become so predominant that it is accepted, and that is just plain wrong. Nay. I just can't stand Scotty! Nor do I care for Henry Winkler, Richard Dean Anderson, & the other associated bands of know nothings that are constantly "coming out" with programs that portray one sided messages of political correctness and liberal morality in nearly every episode that is produced.

I do not care for the ongoing attempts of these people to brainwash the viewing public with episodes that are nothing more than a one hour forum of liberal indoctrination. Funny how so many episodes seem to reflect the views held by these people. The liberal characters (hero) is always shown to be struggling against the injustices wrought by the villains, while the villains are invariably shown to be a result of "failed" conservative ideology. At the end of virtually every episode, the message to the audience is one of an ongoing struggle against those who do not accept this melodramatic crap.

"Enterprise" will be yet one more forum for these people to promote their agenda, as the previous three Startrek series have been, to a large degree. The "Next Generation" originally portrayed a glorious future in which people no longer had the need for money. No entrepreneurs. No businesses. That "Piccard" point of view was discontinued after the it became obvious that such a future cannot exist for humans or aliens. The main reason being that all people are inherently greedy to one degree or another, and a future filled with people who are <u>given</u> anything that (s)he wishes for simply cannot work.

<i>Example: In such a future, suppose that everyone wants their own personal spaceship. Is the government going to give spaceships away like it hands out free cheese? Of course not. Therefore, only those who are basically government employees are going to have access to a spaceship and the ability to travel among the stars. If someone wants a hell of a lot more out of life than what that type of government has decided, then is that proposed future government simply going comply? Not a chance. Believe it or not, capitalism has made the USA the greatest nation in history, while socialism continues to fail miserably. </i>

Roddenbury's Startrek originally was written with the human condition in mind. The same kinds of struggles that 20th century mankind faced were reflected in the original series. With this, I have no problem. However, the subsequent series' have <b>"gone way overboard"</b> on this theme! Instead of the exploration of other worlds, the series seems to more often deal with the expression of liberal views. The last series, "Voyager", contained a ship load of women who were always kicking ass & saving the lives of their emasculated male co-stars. Get real! If this is any indicator of what the next ("Enterprise") series is shaping up to be, then I expect Capt. Bakula to undergo a sex change operation in the first season!:p

I do not care for the fact that a whole generation of people are being brought up to blindly accept the values and morality of an elitist few, while those who hold traditional values are constantly condemned and portrayed as fag hating Nazis. I personally do not hate any of these groups. Instead, my intention was to provoke heated debate from the politically correct crowd.

You really should read this post again.

HOWARDSTERN, or whatever he wants to call himself doesn't seem to posess that much intellect so he creates contraversy to get attention.

People have been doing this for a long time.

Actually HOWARDSTERN tries to potray his counterpart the radio/tv talk show host, and does an excellent job at that. Both are smart and understand the world around them very well. The real one is just the opposite in real life than what he potrays in the obscenity department and I am sure ours is the same.

So, since our forum is not used to the extreme language, I hope he can tone down a little without being politically correct. I would be happier if he changes his personality to more of Bill Maher who uses less obscenities but gets his point across very well.

I agree his assesments on Startrek. We will see how the new ones go.

Oh and by the way, the writer of the article you posted apparently doesn't know the difference between the small intestine, which is very difficult to examine, and the large intestine or colon which is not a problem since an endoscopic examination is generally sufficient.

I personally do not hate any of these groups. Instead, my intention was to provoke heated debate from the politically correct crowd.

Unless i am completely wrong this actually says that Howard is concerned but might feel powerless to change such a thing! ...
If so i can completely sympathize with such sentiments but caution all on the different levels of understanding that all people have (inclusive of time to time e.g.>depressed/stressed/angry)

It seems that allot of people on sciforums (myself included [hopefully in the past only :D] )
jump to a defensive stance on morality...
which is GOOD!
Although sometimes we read something which might be intended as art rather than literal fact of moral belief.

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS...
It must be so hard for the kids when they see people on TV
making racist remarks about their own race and people laughing and expecting others to laugh!

One example is a program that is in PRIME VIEWING TIME hear in New Zealand is called "THE NANNY"
It depicts openly Jewish people making racist jokes about Jews and expecting others to laugh!!! :/


I can only hope that people may view the world for its diversity rather than its adversity!!!
