I haven't talked this with our admin yet, but I just want to know your opinion concerning the possibility of a new subforum called Cultures.

We here are an international community from all over the world, and I think we could use that to our advantage by discussing the similarities and dissimilarities in our respective cultures, also talking about different customs, cultural norms, what is allowed or frowned upon and what is not.
What are our festive celebrations, how do we celebrate,
what are our folk songs like, what are the traditional foods, how are our cultures changing, etc.

Sounds like a good idea, we can finally find out which culture is best :p
Being a transplant myself I find it interesting to examine the background for clues on how things might have gotten to be the way they are in a given culture.

How about starting a single 'culture Q/A' thread. It doesn't really seem to merit its own entire subforum.

Yes, that would be good, because as it currently is, it's only art and entertainment.

I really don't really care. Either way is fine with me. I'm just afraid that 80% of the threads will deal with blacks or jews and it will only fuel racism around here.

Of course, if the moderation is strict and a variety of topics are encouranged, then by all means give it a shot.

it's a valid point and I didn't think of that, since I don't care about jews and have seen only a few black people in my life.
But I think that with the right moderation it should not be a problem.

how telling. A moderator needs to solve disputes? Is that also how you would like to see sciforums develop? More polarization, and disputes solved by the moderators by selecting one answer?

I have tried, for the most part to stay out of the bitch fighting that has gone on in the last few days. But enough is enough.

You are saying that this forum is failing in its purpose. Fair enough. The majority would agree with you. But instead of helping to offer a solution, you and others are working to drive it further into the ground. Your 'us against them' attitude is wrong. You are 'us and them'. You have been here long enough to know the in's and out's of this forum and you know exactly what it is like in the moderator forum. Your attempts to lead the masses in some form of tyranny.. well.. short of the pitchforks and burning torches.. lets just say it is an internet forum.

I like you SM. And as someone who likes you, I am going to give you some constructive advice. Sit back and think for a few minutes. Think about how hard it is to please everyone to ensure that all are somewhat satisfied with the end result. Because if one group likes it, another group will be up in arms with the changes. So instead of coming down on the mods like a tonne of bricks, lay off a bit. Remember how many were supportive of you when you were in our position. Don't now turn into an arsehole and stab them in the back.
