LOL I was going to ask the same thing. I don't see cockroaches
but I don't see any exotic bugs like that.

I see basic bugs.

notice the asymmetrical body? usually plastic figures like that are symmetrical.
And notice the small hairs on the right front leg? a sure sign this thing is real

Just looking at the bottom part of it, it looks fake, but what's the whiter part up top attached to the binder? It looks like you could cut that thing in half and be two different bugs. Weird thing.

the question here is...how can Varda sleep through all of this?

Varda
12-02-07, 09:32 PM
i've been bitten dozens of times, but never in my sleep, it's because i poke them with my fingers
spiders use their poison to feed, you could say poison is expensive to them... they wouldnt waste a bite on something that they can't eat unless they are feeling threatened by it... if you're sleeping they might just walk over you :p

It's arguably the most dangerous spider in the world, the Brazilian Wandering spider. IIRC this was the spider they used as the basis for the spider in the movie Arachniphobia.

Have you been bitten by the Armadeira yet? If so, how did you survive?

i already have!

it was a Phoneutria keyserlingi though, not a nigriventer
What's the difference? Are they both species of the Brazilian Wandering spider?
With that said, it's also called the Banana Spider. There's another spider that has that nickname, the Golden Orb Spider, which happens to be my favorite. They were all over the place in Okinawa. Their webs are as big as bedsheets. Very beautiful spider.

That white spider has got to be the coolest one I have ever seen. I wonder why it evolved like that. Does it hide in orchids or other white flowers?

most spiders are loners
wandering spiders are very particularly solitary

Excellent images again Varda ! :)

While spiders may be loners, they have to lay eggs sometime..
If they live in your house they probably also consider it a good place to make a nest. The spiderlings can't all migrate I suppose so you end up with dozens of wanderers :D

hahaha no, i haven't, I am very cautions whe dealing with powerful poison producing spiders :)

What's the difference? Are they both species of the Brazilian Wandering spider?

yes they are both from the Phoneutria family. The nigriventer has black and white rings around the legs which become very prominent when they assume that classic defensive stance, with 4 legs up. The keyserlingi is all brown. I don't know which one is the most poisonous.

With that said, it's also called the Banana Spider.

yeah, they got that nickname from traveling the world inside banana boxes and they killing the fuck out of everything that goes into the storages

thats cool. i find it neat that it seems like more females are in to animals than males now whatever the animals are. i know when i brought my pet snake to school for aa project one day all the girls in the class wanted to hold it and the boys were afraid of it.

lol well, I don't think women are quite there yet concerning bugs :p
Go to www.renderosity.com and visit the photography section choose Macro. Lots of female bug-photographers there.

How do you deal with them? Aren't they one of the few spiders that will actually charge a human?

yes they are both from the Phoneutria family. The nigriventer has black and white rings around the legs which become very prominent when they assume that classic defensive stance, with 4 legs up.
The funnel web spider in Austrailia that assumes that kind of defensive stance, and is coincidentally Australia's most poisonous spider.

Yep. That's the plotline (albeit I can't remember if it was bananas or something else) that was used in the movie Arachnophobia. I'll have to look that one up.

I've been reading that the Golden Orb spider web fibers are the strongest of all web fibers. A strand would have to be a 1/2 mile long before it would break under its own weight. That's pretty neat.
