View Full Version : New PC is great! cosmictraveler 08-18-04, 06:50 PM WOW, this new AMD FX 939 pin processor along with the new ASUS motherboard really cook! Can't wait to get the new NVidia 6800 graphic card. 2 GIGS of SDram help out allot. rGEMINI 08-18-04, 07:19 PM ... Nice i'm getting it too ^^. cosmictraveler 08-18-04, 08:29 PM Which are you getting? rGEMINI 08-18-04, 09:01 PM oh lol 2 gigs of sdram amd fx 939 ^^ so kewl =P Jenyar 08-19-04, 07:43 AM Would an extra Gig make a difference? I've got the 754 pin Athlon64, but I think the heat sink doesn't make good contact... I can't imagine anybody using these new processors as servers, they get too hot under normal conditions! Closet Philosopher 08-19-04, 08:15 AM Yeah, my firends' computers with the new AMD processors heat the house cosmictraveler 08-19-04, 10:35 AM Mine runs at about 90 degrees F most of the time with 2 -120 MM fans on. It only draws 1.25 volts of electricity at 2500 MHZ Jenyar 08-19-04, 10:58 AM How much is that in C? Mine starts at about 30 C and goes up to 75 under load, with the case open, three fans circulating air (ambient 28 C), and without overclocking. At which point the alarm goes off and I have to shut down. That's why I think the installation is faulty - AMD's cooler should be sufficient, and it's quite cool when I touch it. But still the alarm goes off. Maybe I should take it back. cosmictraveler 08-19-04, 03:26 PM 32 degrees C is 90 degrees F. You have a problem and should take it back as soon as possible. Jenyar 08-20-04, 02:26 AM I'm planning to, the temperature readings are too erratic to be normal. There hasn't been any stuttering or any other cause for concern except the readings, though. spuriousmonkey 08-20-04, 02:29 AM Could you just build a cheap PC by just having a mainboard, some memory, a cd player and a knoppix CD in it? rGEMINI 08-20-04, 05:38 AM LOL that would be kewl. spuriousmonkey 08-20-04, 05:44 AM I guess I also need a videocard, but i could just get one of those mainboards that have a cheap soundcard and videocard build in. rGEMINI 08-20-04, 06:03 AM =_ and a processor screen and keyboard probly don't need a fan, but a box would be suggested LOL cosmictraveler 08-20-04, 10:03 AM Could you just build a cheap PC by just having a mainboard, some memory, a cd player and a knoppix CD in it? And that is what you would have, a cheap, very cheap PC. I'd rather have something that will play the latest games and give great graphic quality for under 2000.00 and that is what I built. vslayer 08-20-04, 11:56 AM man, i have a xp2200 clocked up by about 300mhz running at 25C with my setup: cpu - 7000rpm fan intake - 2x 60mm, 1x 80mm exhaust - 2x 80mm, 1x 90mm Preacher_X 08-21-04, 11:12 AM hmmm, confusing  Kunax 08-21-04, 11:20 AM is it running at 7000 rpm, whats the db on that thingy :), do i need to write in CAPS. random crap: I have a fan that, when on full power can levitate, unforthently its not excatly low noise Aborted_Fetus 08-22-04, 11:18 PM i would go with ATIs X800 series vid cards instead of nvidias...ive been an nvidia fan for a long time, but ATI seems to have outdone them this time....check out this beast... http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-161-119&depa=0 Jenyar 08-23-04, 09:03 AM I found out that the motherboard reports the cpu temps differently after almost every second boot. If it starts out at 60 C, I just reboot and voila! 38 C! I'm going to see if the new bios fixes this... really not in the mood to take the whole thing apart now. cosmictraveler 08-23-04, 09:32 AM i would go with ATIs X800 series vid cards instead of nvidias...ive been an nvidia fan for a long time, but ATI seems to have outdone them this time....check out this beast... http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-161-119&depa=0 It looks like a clone of the NVidia 6800 doesn't it? It is also cheaper by a little bit and it is available now. The 6800 won't be released until Sept. 15 I'm hearing so this card will be perfect for me. Thanks for the 411! :) cosmictraveler 08-25-04, 12:45 PM Put the new ATI X800 Excaliber Pro in the new PC and a nice difference has happened. What great details that I never knew existed befor. I seriously recommend this card to everyone that wants a very good graphic card. It probabley is as good as the new 6800 NVidia because most of the specs are just about the same. It was cheaper and in stock. :) Whats the main difference between open GL and regular 3D? Aborted_Fetus 10-15-04, 05:47 AM openGL is an open source 3d library, directx is microsofts version |
