It’s no secret that the sciforums are in need of some new moderators on most of the boards. For my part I’d like to suggest a new moderator for EM&J. There’s nothing wrong with Tiassa except that he’s not around, likely busy with his real life, fatherhood, and all that silliness.

There is certainly a lot of moderation needed on the EM&J board right now, and for this task I nominate Bells. Bells seems like a good level headed sane person to me, and she shows up frequently, and by god that’s good enough for me.

Now assuming I haven’t broken another open government forum rule by posting this, would anyone care to second the nomination or make one of their own?

Nothing against Bells -- but she is soon going to have a baby.
I'm not sure how much time she'll have for the boards then.

We should choose someone who will be able to have enough time -- and for EM&J, it takes a lot of time, I suppose.

EMJ has calmed down since before the crash, we dont really need a mod there i think, but definietly bells if we had to choose. i wouldnt trust the majority of my fellow posters there(me included) to make rational moderating decisions in the midst of one of the heated debates

ordinarily Bells would be a very strong candidate, however I spoke with her recently and she is taking time out to have her baby (she's due around sept 20th i think)

I would have nominated you Mystech.. lol.. you're saner and a lot more rational than I am...

. And I would most likely incur protests of being biased. So that would be the main reason as to why I would not be a good candidate if it ever came to pass that a new moderator was needed for EM&J. Where is Tiassa anyway?

Plus I'm not really around much at the moment as I have been in and out of hospital in the last week or so... I've just come out again and have a feeling and have been told that I'll probably have to go back again a few times before the child decides to finally get the hell out of me. I am expecting a baby in a matter of weeks so after he/she/devil's spawn is born, I don't think I'll be able to log-on on a daily basis. If I do, I would probably end up sounding like a feral animal just out of a zoo.. even more than I do now. And as Water has said, EM&J is a fairly large forum.

I agree that EM&J is in serious need of a moderator.

However, Bells is not rational, or level headed. She's extremely impatient and short with people who disagree with her, and thinks she can sum up a person from a two line post with her imaginary PhD in psychology. Her moodiness is painful, and we really don't need another overly-emotional version of Xev running around.

I think that Mystech would be a great choice, as would cato. Both are knowledgable, level headed and non-biased. Anyone who can put up with some of the asshats in EM&J like they do without completely losing their cool is pretty impressive. They are intelligent and well spoken, without being arrogant and egotistical. They both have my vote.

Why don't you put a poll to this thread? Any you can add names to it when someone nominates a person not in the poll.

Does EM&J really need a mod? Sciforums doesn't seem to have much trouble with spammers...

Oh that's right - drat. Maybe we can persuade her to entrust the baby to someone else and make Sciforums her new baby? No I don't think that would work so well. . . hmmm.

Making the case for the need of a moderator on the EM&J board I've got to complain that it seems to be frequented by the exact same argument again and again, it's really caught in an endless loop of innane discussion seemingly without any rules. I was hoping that if we had a good mod on board we could use them to straighten things out or at least lock threads or move them to the cesspool. There needs to be order! But then maybe I'm being too totalitarian in my veiws of how the forum should be run. At any rate I don’t like that it’s become a shouting mach of one liners with a severe lack of critical thinking or debate structure.

    Point 1

    Point 2

    Point 1 stated louder

Point 2 stated louder than the first

    Point 1 in bold caps

point 2 in italics and underlined

That's pretty much how a lot of the threads seem to be going. We need someone to get people actualy listening to eachother rather than talking to themselves and to address posters who refuse to comply - or at least get rid of those ones linking to goatse.ex (do not attempt to view this as a link only nightmares can ensue).

Okay that's a good enough idea. Let's give it another day or so for people to voice any candidate they might like.

I suppose right now the options would be Myself, Cato, or No mod is nessisary.

Heh.. Err no. I already have one particular member spouting "your poor child" at me all the time..

I'd make a lousy moderator. As kotoko rightly pointed out, I do not have the patience. For example, I'd have little patience with a member who started figuring out the ovulation cycle of other members...

I nominate you, Cato and One Raven. All three of you are more patient and rational then most of us who post in that forum. I am pretty sure that you and One have been here for ages and know most of the posters who regularly post in there and you understand the issues usually discussed in there.

As of now, it appears as though James R is also moderating the forum and having just looked through it... lol... I think we all got caned for being errr out of line, which is fair enough since most of us were in many instances. I quite like James' style as a mod and he's always fair. So if he's happy to keep going, I'd nominate him as well.

As far as I know, only self-nominations are accepted anyway. At least in the nomination threads itself, to be sure that the people there really want to be moderator.

Anyway, first, there should be a vote to show if people really feel the need for a new mod.

Hmm that's true - I was about to make the poll, but realized that Cato hasn't accepted nomination. Should we perhaps wait until he comments or just move along? Oh well I'll just include a write-in option if anyone wants to come forth after the vote has already started.
