View Full Version : New Mod Avatar
madanthonywayne 02-25-08, 11:04 PM There seems to be a lot of bitching going on around here lately, and I hate to add to it. But what's up with this new pseudo-nazi mod avatar?
http://www.geraldscarfe.com/netprotect.asp?fol=4&pic=crossedhammers_lg.jpg
I sort of understand the idea of making it easier to know who's a mod, but it limits the mods individuality. And I can no longer tell at a glance who's who. Not to mention that the pseudo-nazi imagery might tend to set the wrong tone.
Perhaps the mods could keep the picture of their choice and just have "mod" below the picture?
Asguard 02-25-08, 11:14 PM Mad you missed the point, its OUR protest against certian members.
If people want to winge about yoda sticking his finger up or bells bending over then we will show you all exactly what it is going to be like if we all look the same
Viva la revolution
(have a look at plazma's poll on wether we should ban avatars)
Yeah it makes you all look like a bunch of cry babies. Grow up.
Coming from you, Ripley ....
(Lighten up, gotta lighten up, gotta lighten up right now ... shine like the sun!)

Ah, I see. Well, I hope your protest is brief. When I first saw the double hammer's as Tiassa's avatar, I thought it was pretty cool. I've always been a pink floyd fan, and it reminds me of an old flame from high school who painted a picture of the scene with the marching hammers in The Wall. But then I saw that all the mods had it, and was a bit annoyed.
Asguard 02-26-08, 12:34 AM until the poll on wether we have avatar's or not close. Then i am back to my little green friend
To be honest you have no idea how hard the mod section is to read at the moment:p
madanthonywayne 02-26-08, 12:39 AM LOL. I'll bet. What's up with all the bitching around here lately?
Asguard 02-26-08, 12:43 AM who knows?:p
i guess the natives just got restless again, they do that on occassion:p
Lord Hillyer 02-26-08, 01:03 AM I think it's fitting. Good job, mods.
Yeah it makes you all look like a bunch of cry babies. Grow up.
On the contrary. A member has filed a complaint about Asguard's and my respective avatars, claiming both to be obscene and offensive. We could either have ignored her complaints or acted on it. As you can see, we decided to act on it.

The reason behind our change of avatars can be found here:
http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=77952
and here:
http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=77872
It seems the complaint about our respective avatars has come about as a manner to get even (http://www.sciforums.com/showpost.php?p=1765612&postcount=83) for banning sandy for one day for not heeding previous warnings. So enjoy our monotony and enjoy now having trouble distinguishing who is who.:)
Asguard 02-26-08, 01:12 AM you know bells i have actually had more "complaints" (thats the closest word i cant think of right now) about the fact that i CHANGED my avatar than i have had before this:p
you know bells i have actually had more "complaints" (thats the closest word i cant think of right now) about the fact that i CHANGED my avatar than i have had before this:p
Same. But that's life I guess.
madanthonywayne 02-26-08, 01:28 AM On the contrary. A member has filed a complaint about Asguard's and my respective avatars, claiming both to be obscene and offensive.
Wasn't your avatar some kind of mushroom or bell or something? I really don't remember? I sure don't remember being offended by it, but then I'm pretty hard to offend. Anyway, Sandy PM'd me to say she's out of here, so no need to teach her a lesson.
Asguard 02-26-08, 01:29 AM it was a cartoon giving the moon:p
I have to say i thought it was a bell though:p
madanthonywayne 02-26-08, 01:38 AM it was a cartoon giving the moon:p
I have to say i thought it was a bell though:p
Me too. I guess I never looked at it that closely, I assumed it was a bell because of her name.

It wasn't sandy who complained about our avatars. The complaint came as a result of sandy being banned for one day. Apparently it was a means of getting even because of her ban.
Apparently a cartoon of an orange backside bending down with his pants down is highly offensive and obscene.:p Tis funny really.:)
James R 02-26-08, 02:01 AM There seems to be a lot of bitching going on around here lately, and I hate to add to it. But what's up with this new pseudo-nazi mod avatar?
It's just our little joke.
We think it is fitting, since there are some members who seem to think that all the moderators are pseudo-Nazi fascists anyway. We're giving them what they want - with a little tongue in cheek.
I sort of understand the idea of making it easier to know who's a mod, but it limits the mods individuality.
But we're not individuals. We're all just part of the moderation machine which rules sciforums with an iron fist! Apparently.
And I can no longer tell at a glance who's who. Not to mention that the pseudo-nazi imagery might tend to set the wrong tone.
We tried friendly and approachable, and look how that went!
Yeah it makes you all look like a bunch of cry babies. Grow up.
Give it time. We'll have had our fun.
kazakhan 02-26-08, 04:32 AM It's just our little joke.
And it shows just how childish you lot really are
That pic freaks me out. I don't like hammers like that, and absolutely not in connection with those colours.
marnixR 02-26-08, 06:40 AM yawn - a saying about heat and light just lurks around the corner of my mind
We're giving them what they want - with a little tongue in cheek.
Better than tongue in orange backside.

And it shows just how childish you lot really are
Squeaky wheels get greased. We aim to please.
Asguard 02-26-08, 06:59 AM now thats an idea, we could all get bells avatar if the members dont like this one:p
nietzschefan 02-26-08, 08:29 AM I like the avatars.
It's an insult to Pink Floyd fans.
marnixR 02-26-08, 09:03 AM pink floyd fans should grow up and start listening to music that's less than 20 years old :p
pink floyd fans should grow up and start listening to music that's less than 20 years old :p
Sorry, I didn't know 'quality' was equivalent to 'age.' :p
Syzygys 02-26-08, 09:51 AM On the contrary. A member has filed a complaint
That dirty Baron Max! He always complains!
Honestly, Asguard's wasn't moderator-like, and Bells wasn't lady-like.... :)
Killjoy 02-26-08, 11:36 PM Mad you missed the point, its OUR protest against certian members.
Quitting en masse would have been better.
It's an insult to Pink Floyd fans.
What, are you saying Rog doesn't have a sense of humor?
I would actually suggest those particular fans would be insulting Pink Floyd.
kazakhan 02-27-08, 12:42 AM Squeaky wheels get greased. We aim to please.
So these new avatars are permanent then?
James R 02-27-08, 12:53 AM Quitting en masse would have been better.
But not nearly as much fun.
So these new avatars are permanent then?
Nope (http://www.sciforums.com/showpost.php?p=1765610&postcount=6).
Asguard 02-27-08, 01:15 AM i wonder if anyone can guess which mod had this idea?:p
I wish i could make this a poll to see who people think:p
Killjoy 02-27-08, 11:18 PM But not nearly as much fun.
Quite a bit more, actually.
BenTheMan 02-28-08, 12:13 AM But what's up with this new pseudo-nazi mod avatar?
Hmmm... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law)
well silence falls upon deaf ears ... revolution is cyclic in nature
kazakhan 02-28-08, 03:06 AM Nope (http://www.sciforums.com/showpost.php?p=1765610&postcount=6).
Well then, thank you for emphasising my point
Asguard 02-28-08, 03:09 AM what point?
Challenger78 02-28-08, 03:33 AM At least Asguard still has his..unique.. style of writing, but I probably won't be able to distinguish James from Tiassa without actually reading the posts.
Asguard 02-28-08, 03:37 AM thanks for that:(
unique...."special"....very very "special"
Syzygys 02-28-08, 10:00 AM Can you guys keep the new mods avatar? I like it a lot. At least it immediatelly reminds me if I have to be careful or avoid certain threads! Perfectly fits with the crypto-nazi nature..... :)
James R 02-28-08, 09:35 PM At least Asguard still has his..unique.. style of writing, but I probably won't be able to distinguish James from Tiassa without actually reading the posts.
Just go by the length. If the post is longer than 50,000 words, it's Tiassa. :)
Can you guys keep the new mods avatar? I like it a lot.
I'm not sure how long I can tolerate my individuality being suppressed by the collective... ;)
Asguard 02-28-08, 09:39 PM *goes off and gives james another injection of nanobots*:p
We are the colective:p
Edit to add:Ops that was the other thread
Well then, thank you for emphasising my point
M'pleasure. Service with a ... :D
darksidZz 02-28-08, 10:26 PM Can regular members use the mod avatar?

Law was already fulfilled in the OP, Killjoy's post doesn't count. ;)
BenTheMan 02-29-08, 12:28 AM ach. scheisse.
You are correct.
darksidZz 02-29-08, 12:30 AM Can anyone use that avatar?
Asguard 02-29-08, 12:32 AM i surpose so, dragon is already and someone else has an ANTI mod avatar:p
i surpose so, dragon is already and someone else has an ANTI mod avatar:p
well I don't exactly use the avatar you use...
phoenix2634 02-29-08, 03:11 AM Can anyone use that avatar?
I'm using it. And I'm anyone. :m:
I think the question that needs to be asked is why do you want to use the same avatar that we are using?:bugeye:
It makes sense in a way, Bells. Hammer was very popular.
Ham-mer!

mimicry ?
Stryder 02-29-08, 08:05 AM Tiassa, After you pointed out RickRolling (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBGIQ7ZuuiU), I thought you would of Hammered (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMzoBkaFxh4) sciforumers.
Pinocchio's Hoof 03-02-08, 11:11 AM sorry quick question......
I wanted to put a camshot/picture of my dog as my avatar but the KB size is too big (900 i think) and the max it will let me use is 197(i think) is there anyway I can make the pic smaller (Kb's)to use as avatar...........
thanks if u can be of assistance....
:scratchin:
Syzygys 03-02-08, 12:09 PM Take a screenshot of the picture using Print screen, than save it. I think that reduces the KB size...

I have never ever read a more moronic suggestion!
Pinocchio, send the pic to my email, I will resize it.
Repo Man 03-02-08, 12:29 PM The free program Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/) can be used to resize images.
Pinocchio's Hoof 03-02-08, 12:39 PM thanks Avatar I mailed it to you.
If I get no luck I will try Irfanview.
cheers for help:wave:
Syzygys 03-02-08, 02:08 PM I have never ever read a more moronic suggestion!
Hey asshole, just because you know shit about computers, that is not MY fault:
Here is what I tested: I picked a random pic of 922 KB size, took a PrintScreen shot of it, copied into the built in Paint progam, then saved it and guess what moron, the size is now after saving it in JPEG form:
117 KB (119,916 bytes)
P.S.: The whole thing took about 30 secs....
That's like cutting flowers with a baseball bat.
Syzygys 03-02-08, 04:25 PM I believe in KISS (keep it simple, silly) so if you can do it in a simple way, there is no point in overcomplicating it.
Going back to the topic, the mods gave up their organized riot quite soon. Individuality first!!!
Yeah, I'm still not sure what they rioted against.
Yeah, I'm still not sure what they rioted against.Saving face. Which is quite the irony.
And a blatant Freudian slip that unmasked so much more than what was being swept under the rug.
Asguard 03-02-08, 05:08 PM Ripley we have been quite open about what we were doing, we were making a point both in protest against the idiot who wanted to get bell's and my avatar banned (notice my little friend is back:p) and to show what it would look like if people DID get rid of avatar's
I miss the mod squad avatars already. :(
Asguard 03-02-08, 05:14 PM you guys had it easy, we had to post in a forum where EVERY POST had the same bloody avatar
it was impossable to tell you OWN posts from anyone elses
sisyphus__ 03-02-08, 05:53 PM Good job moderators. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
Syzygys 03-02-08, 07:33 PM ... and to show what it would look like if people DID get rid of avatar's
And we liked it! :)
And we liked it! :)
but would you say the same thing after a year or so?
the dull taste of the same mundane breakfast fat free milk with corn flakes....for a year....
Syzygys 03-02-08, 08:32 PM I was just teasing them, because I knew they wanted to make a statement and I was pulling their legs by expressing that their statement backfired. Evil me! :)
On the bright side, you could change your avatar now to let's say Rasputin!
Rasputin!
I do not stand for evil. His highness death purged because of the scum, burn to dust everything Rasputin was for.
Ripley we have been quite open about what we were doing,You were only open about it after the incident that provoked your so called "protest". We were all just having a nice friendly chat about something...
we were making a point both in protest against the idiotYou calling Greenberg an idiot but forum members can't call you an assguard without being banned??
the idiot who wanted to get bell's and my avatar bannedHe wasn't canvasing to have any avatar banned for crying out loud. He was merely contrasting two moral effects: the visual connotation as represented in your avatars, and the same forbidden message as denoted in certain words. It was an interesting approach to a problem the forums was having, no? And then that problem got a little bit more complicated, right?
But never mind all that. As I said, the "protest" itself was quite emblematic for the benefit of the more astute members here. Bravo for dropping your pants and mooning us.
Pinocchio's Hoof 03-04-08, 03:11 AM Resized and sent.
cheers dude. Sally-bub salutes you
James R 03-05-08, 09:02 PM Ripley we have been quite open about what we were doing, we were making a point both in protest against the idiot who wanted to get bell's and my avatar banned...
I don't think he is an idiot just because he finds your avatar offensive.
He may just be oversensitive.
Please don't insult members if they express an opinion you disagree with.
Challenger78 03-06-08, 02:44 AM Good to have them back, couldn't tell one from the other for a while.
Killjoy 03-06-08, 09:22 PM Good to have them back, couldn't tell one from the other for a while.
What - you lost the ability to read their names ?
I think it's too bad they can't just all post under the user name "Moderator" as well as all having the same avatar.
