I'd like to point out a phenomenon that I find very disturbing, this article (http://www.consciouschoice.com/2004/cc1709/newagebullies1709.html) describes it well:

During my 36 years as a psychotherapist, I’ve seen many clients who have been victims of people like those Hannah and my friend describe. I call them New Age Bullies — those who, sometimes with the best intentions, repeat spiritual movement shibboleths, with little understanding of how hurtful their advice can be. Some of their favorite clichés are:

It happened for a reason.

Nobody can hurt you without your consent.

I wonder why you created this illness (or experience).

It’s just your karma.

There are no accidents.

There are no victims.

There are no mistakes.

A variant of this behavior is found in the self-bullying people who blame themselves for being victims of a crime, accident, or illness and interpret such misfortunes as evidence of their personal defects or spiritual deficiencies.

It seems that some people are so eager to help, or to understand another person, that they forget they have to do with another *person*, and instead treat the situation as yet another opportunity to show off with how well-read they are in psychology and spiritual matters.

I myself witnessed absurd situations where a person, all in tears, was told "It's your responses that are exhausting you".
While this may be true, it is just the wrong time to say it.

What do you think leads people to behave like spiritual bullies? If you have ever done it yourself, how do you reflect on it?

Discuss.
