http://staff.fcps.net/kcrosby/nov_13.htm
please visit the link above (all the questions and images are there)
my teacher has given a picture of a VERY RARE rock event
please help me at least IDENTIFY the rock and help me answer the 1st question
as i said before, this rock formation is EXTREMELY RARE
thanks!
Not sure what it is. Looks basaltic / kimberlitic. Could it be some sort of phenocryst or other rock inclusion from the surrounding country rock?
please help me

can anybody else help me?
i would like to have a few opinions to consider upon
1. Since the rock in question was found in Hawaii I'd hesitate to say it's kimberlite (although I do hazily recall reading a controversial article about the possibility of finding diamonds there so I could be wrong). I expect that the high-scoring word he's looking for is 'xenolith'.
2. The ultramafic composition of the xenoliths suggests their source (mantle). That's probably why they're significant to a volcanologist.
3. Could it be Mauna Kea?
please help me

i think that the word 'xenolith' is correct
however, he asks for TWO smaller things in the rock.
i believe one of these two is 'xenolith' but what is the other one?
does anybody know?
thanks
oops... I meant xenolith... (curse! that's the word!) sorry it's been a while folks. anyways thanks for the correction laika

so does anyone know what the TWO smaller things are?
im pretty sure that one of them is 'xenolith'
i've done some research but all i can come up with is an 'autolith?'
Yeah. They look rather identical to me.
