Hello everyone. This is my first post here. And before you all read my subject, I want to let you all know that I am a 17-year old with alot of ambition and a very creative mind that God gave me. So don't htink that I am wacko or anything.Alright, so here I go.

I am a huge fan of trying to think of ways to improve technology in vehicles, plains, space crafts, and more. I recently had an idea that I think might work, but it is in its generic stage because I simply don't have a big enough understanding of physics and the way things behave in flight. But I think that we are getting to the point where wings are things of yesteryear.

My idea is to have an aerodynamic body that on the bottom of the craft, it would have an ability to open or close the bottom. Through the bottom of the craft would be a type of wave( radio, micro, ultraviolent, etc.) that would put an aposing force on the air molecules below it. The wave would be strong enough to support many times the crafts weaght, and it would be able to accelerate very quickly as well as reach speeds very high for our atmosphere. The thing is, the wave would push the air molecules out of the way, then instantly new air molecules would fall into place.

I also thought of a space version of the vehicle. The space vehicle wouldalready have about the equivelent of 5 tons of molecules ( that are magnetized)in the bottom section of the craft. Eccept on this version, there would be an octogon shaped magneticaly active device that, as soon as the particles are let out and pushed upon, they would soon be grabbed by the magnetic object and reused in the craft.

I have no idea if such a wave is out there though. It may have not been discovered yet. What do you all think?

not too far off base, but the way you want to do it would not work. read this link http://www.you.com.au/news/1571.htm

you would connot retain the fuel without causing thrust in the opposite direction. so you would use a lot of energy to go exactly nowhere. moreover, it is all about energy density. chemical fuels have pretty good energy densities, so we will probably not see them replaced any time soon.

If the "wave" reacts with the air molecules then it reacts with the ship, forming an action-reaction engine like a rocket, and you don't need the air underneath. The down side is that the thrust is very small for a reasonable intensity wave. Even if you could generate an intense enough wave, you would incinerate any thing on the ground below you, even when you were flying at high altitude.
This idea of catch and re-using reaction mass is an old one, and I can't tell you how many people have thought it was original with them. It simply will not work. Your ship intially gains velocity by "throwing" the molecules backwards. You have transfered backwards momentum to them to gain forward momentum for yourself. If you try and catch them to re-use them you have to take back that backwards momentum, and it will cancel out the forward momentum. Net result, you go nowhere.
