On Monday we buried our little Yorkie; she was just 12 years old. Following 2 operations, one to remove a lump on her chest and consequently another because the lump reappeared, the wound would not stop bleeding. The decision to put her to sleep was the hardest we've ever had to make, because apart from the bleeding she seemed perfectly normal, happy and perky. I am so sad, have not wept for anything in all my life like I did, and still do for my Trixie.

I am also sorry to hear that, Tabla, Enmos.. (Enmos, you lost your cat also?)..
The decision to put them sleep must be really difficult, I am so sorry to hear it.

Enmos, I think Yorkie is the one that Tabla put here once:

Sorry to hear that. We had a beautiful Samoyed we had to put to sleep yrs ago.
It was the first time I really ever saw my EX cry. He stayed with him while they put him to sleep. I couldn't do it, I stayed at home.

Are you burying her in a special place at home?

I am sorry, death is a part of life and seperating from the ones you love is never easy.

I have had to do it too many times.
I miss my cat Fuzzy, we had a special bond that words fail to describe. If cats could be enlightened, I'd say she was the most enlightened cat I have knew. I promised her I would come back for her, but she got hit by a car before I got the chance. I cried for the first time in years over it. I will always miss her and hope that one day I can see her again.

One of Fuzzy's disciples is a cat named Ninga. He is still alive and being cared for be my brother in law. He reported that one day Ninja beat the shit out of a nosy Rotweiler 6 times bigger then him for snooping around the backyard. Thats one territorial cat!!!

We buried her in the garden where we can see her from the kitchen window; today, we chose and ordered a marble slab and epitaph, to mark the spot.

growing up, not a single pet we had ever had to be put to sleep. They all died peacefully in the barn or a haystack of old age.

I didn't find out til I was in my 30s that my Dad was having them put to sleep then taking them home and 'staging' them. Honestly, it was easier for us kids to think our parents hadn't killed them.

We did the same thing with my kids cat Zoey. We buried her in her blanket in my daughter's flower garden. The whole circle of life thing and the kids think of her every time the flowers grow. We are putting in a pool this summer and my daughter was horrified that Zoey would be dug up. I had forgotten all about her. :o

why is it ok to put pets to sleep, but not ok to put people to sleep?

Its called "pulling the plug" or lethal injection.

Good point..
In the Netherlands that is somewhat ok though, I'm sure there are more countries.. (?)

I'm so sorry for your loss, I was distraught for 3 days running following Trixie's death. The only consolation I can offer is that time is a healer; you must try to keep busy and don't think about him too much.

I know a local dog called Buddy; you don't live in Cyprus do you?
