I never use my dvd player because I have a lot of movie channels on my sat receiver, trouble is there are hardly any movies that are actually worth watching.

Jot down your favourites with brief synopsis.

I've just watched Bad Santa. The funniest, crudest Christmas film ever? I think so.

Casino. Raging Bull. I dunno - there are 1000s.

Why not work your way through the IMDB's Top 250 (http://www.imdb.com/chart/top)? Or Rotten Tomatoes' Best of All Time (http://uk.rottentomatoes.com/top/bestofrt_year.php) or Best of the Year (http://uk.rottentomatoes.com/top/bestofrt_year.php?year=2006). Or browse around those sites and see what takes your fancy?

Good luck, etc.

The Blue planet
We love our nature docs, don't we? I've watched the first part of Planet Earth, shown earlier this year. 4 years in the making, and the most wide-ranging and comprehensive Attenborough series so far - featuring some of the most beautiful, astonishing footage ever broadcast on television. A must see. Almost worth paying your licence fee for.

That's the one about the South American aborigines, isn't it? And... a missionary that goes native?

It's been years since I've watched it. Very good.

I just saw Debbie does Dallas, and was astounded by the camera work and music; highly educational too.

Actually there was one thing I didn't like. Atfer the episode ended there was a small documentary on how they shot that episode.

I honestly really don't want to see that after getting so high on the real stuff. It takes away the mystery and some of the coming.

bloody hell..black adder. I used to have series 4 on DVD and watched it over and over. I can't remember where I left it. It got lost moving to the US. one more reason not to like the US.

'Only Fools and Horses' series. :)

I've got 30 DVD-s of it (with 3 episodes on each), but I think that single one episode of this show is enough to make your day better.

I guess you either appreciate the intelligence behind the comedy of the movie or run away from the non PC shocking bits.

I went to see this Borat movie thing to a theather. And saw it. I saw how he made Kazakhstan look like there are prostitutes living there. How he took his crap for everyone to see to a kitchen table. How he run naked with his companion around the hotel. This is what I saw. What I felt was: disgust, disgust, and resentment that the $8 spent did not go on an ice-cream. The only good part was the Bear...that is all.

Good DVDs?
Hmmm

Band of Brothers - the box-set - wonderfully made - far better than Saving Private Ryan.

Outland - classic stuff with Sean Connery - remake of High Noon on IO (moon of Jupiter)

Black Books - hilarious stuff from Dylan Moran - with Bill Bailey thrown in for trollish measure. All 3 series are top notch.

Ghost in the Shell - if you're into anime then it doesn't get any better.
