Is music truly the window to the soul???

Maybe this should be in the philosophy area, but it really is one of those which equally fits multiple places.

I mean, if I am hearing music....and I am NOT concentrating on any of the words/etc, and if I am not reading anything or hearing anyone else talking or seeing any recognizable letters, then I truly am in a different state.

It is sort of like an "above" state, I guess. ....just completely mentally uninhibited.

This is what I REALLY loved about those old Nintendo games. They had no words (except for the title screen), and there was no talking, hence, no verbal communication.....yet you could play the levels and just sort of "feel" it, if I am making any sense:p (sorry if I'm not)

I just love music:p

Hmmm.........in that case, it must be the Smiling Eyes of Music which is the window to the soul.:p

i think music is what opens your soul. it makes you feel as if you know the musicians personally, and in a way, you do. they are telling you all of their secrets and all of their pains and struggles with love and life and how they deal or don't, and they make you realize that you aren't as bad off as you really thought you were. i definitely feel like music looks into your soul more than music being thought of as your eyes.

I would rather think of music as "the realeaser of emotions" rather than the window to the soul......but whatever suites best you is fine with me:p

No .Music is simply a group of sounds put together to make a beat

Music, and art of all forms, is one of the most important things in my life.

Ever read anything about Abraham Maslow? His ideas might help you to understand why music is so important to you. Maslow's theory was that when our basic needs are met (the survival needs), we then require "metaneeds". Metaneeds are where we derive the basic energy and joy for living that propels us forward as superconcious creatures.

Music is a much more direct means of communication than the written language, and can reach out in a far more complex way than simple speech. From the simplest lullaby you heard as a child to a complex and abstract Aphex Twins track - music has enormous power to modify your world.
