Unfortunately, in international politics, unless there is nothing to gain, countries won't intervene even in just causes, just like in Rwanda. What should happen though, is a pan-African army, with the arming of western powers should come in and enforce the peace so that elections (monitored by the UN or some international body) can take place without violence or threat of it.
Well, the US could try military action, but we all know how popular that is these days. Though, there isn't anything real at stake, so I'm sure those opposed to military intervention would hail it as a humanitarian effort. But for real, the world should just cut off all major trade with the country. Supervised, food and humanitarian aid. That's about all I would do. ~String
The problem with "putting sanctions" on Mugabe's regime is that they would be absolutely and utterly pointless. Look at how bad the economy and infrustructure in Zimbabwe already are. How much worse do you think it can get?
Mugabe (giving the finger to the Queen): Hey, lady, once a knight, always a knight!! And what is this shit giving knighthood to Rushdie??? "Originally graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Fort Hare in 1951, Mugabe subsequently earned six further degrees through distance learning including a Bachelor of Administration and Bachelor of Education from the University of South Africa and a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Laws, Master of Science and Master of Laws, all from the University of London External Programme.[23] The two Law degrees were taken whilst he was in prison, whilst the Master of Science degree was taken during his premiership of Zimbabwe." Apparently he did many good things in the 80s....
No. I was being sarcastic. English should include some kind of inflective accents that carry the emotional meaning. Like music that has high notes, low notes and whatnot. ~String
It's obvious you were being sarcastic, but was it directed at me, when I said "sanctions won't work"?
Mandela is upset with Mugabe for not killing enough white people. http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=37010
There are already sanctions for Zimbabwe. For those sanctioning international military intervention, haven't you people seen enough failures to know that doesn't always work...its no duck-walk and sometimes make matters worse. Issuing a military presence in a country to insure fair elections doesn't guarantee the outcome the West would desire and brings into question the notion of sovereignty. We would then have to question why there are no troops in Myanmar for their elections or any other country where an election brings on intimidation tactics.
