View Full Version : Movie/TV series that you hate, but everyone else loves
mountainhare 11-30-06, 04:21 AM What movies or TV series do you hate with a passion, yet everyone around you seems to love with a passion?
I feel like I'm in the the Twilight Zone whenever any of the following movies are on TV:
- Grease.
Whenever the teacher was absent from any of our classes at secondary school, my school 'mates' used to go and get this movie from the library. I must have been forced to watch this piece of trash half a dozen times.
- Sister Act.
Not only is Whoopie Goldberg goddamn ugly, this 'comedy' isn't funny in the least.
- Karate Kid trilogy.
I've already vented my hate for the 'Karate Kid' trilogy in the past. 'Daniel San, paint the fence'. Daniel San can paint my fist after it has flattened his bonepecker face.
- Titanic.
Wouldn't this movie suck if you went into it knowing that the Titanic was going to hit an iceberg? Man, what a spoiler!
- Any movie with Jim Carey (especially 'Liar Liar' and 'Bruce Almighty')
Yes, I can hear you booing and hissing. 'How dare he put down the king of comedy'. No, Jim Carey isn't the 'King' of anything, except overblown acting. Whenever I watch him act, I don't think "Here's a funny man". Quite the contrary, I think "Here's a bloody idiot."
- Any movie with Adam Sandler.
I hate Adam Sandler. I hate Happy Gilmore. I hate Billy Madison. They aren't funny movies. They are lame.
- Any movie with Ben Stiller.
I hate Ben Stiller. I hate the stereocast character (the 'nice loser') he has consistently played in every movie. 'Meet the Parents' is perhaps the most over-rated movie of all time. The 'Gaylord Focker' gag just wasn't funny. It's more childish than the 'Fook Yu/Fook Me' gag from Goldmember. But the 'Fook' joke was actually funny, because it wasn't constantly mentioned every 5 minutes. Ok ok, 'Focker' sounds like 'Fucker'. Do you have to keep repeating the same old joke?
- 'The Sounds of Music'.
I tend to hate any 'musical' production, but 'The Sounds of Music' causes bile to rise in my throat. There was one time when my secondary schoolmates couldn't get their greasy hands on 'Grease', so they instead played 'The Sounds of Music'.
- Pride and Prejudice
We had to watch this movie/series for about 4 consecutive weeks in our Literature class. God help me. And before anyone pipes up and says 'Yeah, but it's a chick flick', that's no god damn excuse. I've read/seen Jane Eyre, and I loved it. Merely being a chick flick isn't a green light to make it goddamn boring.
- The English Patient.
Pretty much the same deal as 'Pride and Prejudice '. I sympathize with Eileen from 'Seinfeld'. This movie is BORING, and just goes on and on.
TV Series I hate, but everyone else seems to love.
- Friends
Lame.
- Neighbours + Home and Away
Double lame.
- Big Brother, Survivor, and any other 'reality' TV show.
Ooooh, let's watch a show about 20 boring dumbasses living a normal life in a normal house. Yeah, real exciting. Not.
How dare a shitty reality show steal the catchphrase 'Big Brother' from the kickass book '1984', and pervert it.
- Cow and Chicken
I hate this cartoon. I hate it with a passion. I have no doubt that it is responsible for spawning the sociopaths and serial killers of our generation.
- Any anime shown in Australia on kids cartoon channels.
Sailor Moon? DragonballZ? Pokemon? Digimon? Who the hell watches this stuff? While I tend to hate anime, the four animes mentioned above belong in the gutter.
Fathoms 11-30-06, 04:28 AM are we feeling better now?
Dr Lou Natic 11-30-06, 05:33 AM Yeah some contraversial things in there my man.
I understand criticisms of jim carey, it can be a bit much.
In primary school everyone was obsessed with him, as I was, then I went through the phase of thinking he was lame (and alot of the things he's done are really lame), but just recently I've grown to appreciate him again.
He is pretty original IMO.
I love "Me, myself and irene", his "cottonmouth" impression in that just kills me.
And he seems to be willing to do different things, man on the moon and spotless mind etc, I think he's rightfully considered brilliant and rightfully considered a bit of an over actor and attention whore.
Adam sandler has definately gone too far, but in their own right happy gilmore and billy madison weren't that bad, now I hate "sandler movies" and hold them up as an example of formulaic trash, but that formula, if it was one or 2 movies as opposed to too many, then it wouldn't be so noticably bad and you could judge the movies for their funny moments without thinking too much about how annoyingly predictable the moronic basic plot was.
Standout billy madison moment would be the guy running the contest at the end, who just annihilates billy madison for his pointless off the mark analogy comparing the industrial revolution with the puppy story.
And, in happy gilmore, obviously ben stiller's performance is just gold. One of the greatest comedy characters in a movie ever.
"you can get me a warm glass of shut the hell up"
Yeah yeah it's been over done by idiot fans, but as a standalone idea before the craze which followed, ben stiller's character/lines in happy gilmore was/were genius.
The fallout since the success of these movies has been horriffic.
I can't think of worse movies in existence than big daddy, little nicky et al.
But adam sandler was pretty good in snl and his first couple of movies, while overall being mildly disappointing compared to his snl stuff, weren't too bad. Had some good parts at least.
But then maybe I'm just comparing them to his newer movies, in which case anything could seem good.
Ben stiller,
I hate zoolander, dodgeball, starsky and hutch etc, in fact his happy gilmore character was the only outlandish stiller character I've liked.
However, I do like his "straight man in a crazy world" characters, as seen in meet the parents.
He's really really good at playing normal slightly nervous characters confused with the behaviour of odd unreasonable people, struggling to deal with them.
He's very talented at this, there's a couple of "hardcore" underground comedy performers who kick ass at playing the "straight man" and most of them will admit they admire ben stiller's talents.
He does suck when he tries to be zany and funny, if he's trying to be the weird character as opposed to the person who can't deal with the weird character, he sucks.
Home and away will always be crap, but I've grown to love neighbours recently, you just need to approach it with the right mindset. It's really supposed to be a joke, it's constantly poking fun at itself in some very clever ways.
I always wondered why it was popular in britain, what kind of morons are they? Turns out they tune in to piss themselves laughing, and I get it now, it can be a lot of fun.
Survivor is great I'm afraid. Could be better actually in it's structure, but I only know that because I'm a reality show afficianado.
I really have no respect for the "reality shows are trash, bring back good quality dramas with actors" vibe.
I don't think the people who propogate this are as clever as they think they are, I think they're ultimately only failing to appreciate the qualities within some reality tv and sense the potential with the medium, which is only a shortcoming and nothing to be proud of.
Survivor, the apprentice, average joe, man these are just fantastic.
You need to naturally appreciate awkward and embarrassing moments I think. The point in the end is to sneer at the kind of wanker who would go on a reality tv show, to watch them embarrass themselves. They're often arrogant, and by the end of any given series their dignity has invariably been wrenched away from them and stomped into the dirt.
Often the writers structuring these shows are just brilliant, they really are, and they set up the most humiliating things for the moron contestants to engage in.
Even big brother, a mention of an ex housemates name is met with laughter and mockery, everyone knows these people are jokes, that's the point, they search for stardom and fame in the laziest way possible, and end up with nothing but humiliation.
It's beautifull.
Grease and the sound of music? I'm very glad they were made, I'll put it that way. I don't necessarrily want to watch them too many times. But they are classics.
Sister act, karate kid, titanic, friends, cow and chicken, home and away, anime, etc, I agree.
Total shit.
But I feel there are some qualities in the others you either aren't aware of or are choosing to not ackowledge.
What movies or TV series do you hate with a passion, yet everyone around you seems to love with a passion?
Blah blah blah blah blah...You must not be a very happy person.
Anyway: Desperate Housewives, although I wouldn't say I "hate" it. But it gets boring when you can tell everything that's going to happen 30 seconds in advance.
Prince_James 11-30-06, 10:26 AM "Apocalypse Now". That movie was movie was four hours of boring nonsense, ending with Brando being the biggest ham I've ever sene in my life.
"Apocalypse Now". That movie was movie was four hours of boring nonsense, ending with Brando being the biggest ham I've ever sene in my life.
I can stand bashing ben stiller or mr carey, but apocalypse now is untouchable.
phonetic 11-30-06, 12:14 PM Lost, because it buried my Lost. The original Lost. Why couldn't they use another name, the bastards??
I'm a celebrity, get me out of here and (sorry lou) most other reality tv shows.
I cringe from start to finish. They talk about how it's hard to cope and it's really difficult. I'd like to see those fuckers in a natural habitat that hadn't been sanitised, with only the clothes they're wearing. Then the ignorant fuckwits would be in trouble, only the viewing public would get to vote which one had a leg broken by some fucking mentalist with a machete that would attack them in the night. The useless cunts spent ages trying to figure out how to put a hammock up - I want to fuck them up with a knife and .. so much more. I can't find anything that feels satisfying to say. Arghhh!
Oz - remember the programme set in a prison? - ok, so I don't hate it, but I certainly didn't see its merits. It was mildly amusing for 5 minutes, but after everyone had been raped 3 or 4 times, it wasn't funny.
Anything involving Baddiel or Skinner. Fucking halfwits.
Any football match and the shitty breakdown that follows the game.
Newsround - when the children get to have their views read on tv - the ignorance of the little fuckers makes me sick to the stomach.
Anything with Dick(wad) or (used-Con)Dom(face).
Catherine Tate - if she was a puppy, she'd have been drowned at birth.
Little Britain - It's shite. Repetitive, monotonous, shite. The over-used jokes, dipshit level of humour and fuck them.
Angela Anaconda - Sweet Jesus Christ, I hate that sodding cartoon. If she was real I'd punch in her in the face, even if she was 8. Whatever wankers put that into the mainstream should be strung up and have their genitals gnawed off by rats. As if there aren't enough whiney, self righteous bitches in the world without feeding that tripe to developing children. FUCK THEM.
Fraggle Rocker 11-30-06, 05:10 PM The news. TV news is for people who can't read. They don't tell you what happened, they tell you how to feel about it.
Doctor Phil. His advice is almost always offensively presented, usually incompetent, and often downright dangerous.
Professional "wrestling." It's nothing but exaggerated slapstick. I couldn't stand the Three Stooges and I can't stand WWE.
Gruesome gore. A little blood and violence is necessary in a crime drama, but we don't have to watch them perform an autopsy, or open heart surgery for that matter. I don't mind Nip/Tuck because they're very good about signaling the onset of gore by putting on the special gore music. But I hate it when I'm sitting there eating my lasagne and somebody opens the flue to their chimney and half of a mangled corpse tumbles out.
All the Rocky movies sucked, as does Stallone. The exaggerated NE accent thing coupled with his utter inability to act topped off with a lame boring story makes this series one of the stinkiest. People react to my opinion of the Rocky movies like I've just burned a flag.
It's a Wonderful Life. Just cuz it's old it gets far too much adoration and worship. It's fake, cheesy, poor acting throughout, bad music and nauseating to the credits.
Roseanne. I loved this show, 15 years ago, but the later seasons and the endless goddamn reruns that pop up all over digitalcableland makes this series a candidate. Fat white trash just aren't funny anymore, but embarrassing. Roseanne tries so hard to appear as an everyday broad with kids and a mortgage but she's really just an ugly fat chick with a pig of a husband and the brattiest kids on television.
I'm sure I'll be adding to this post!
All Reality TV shows, Daytime Soaps, CSI, Desperate Housewives, Friends, Oprah.
Booooooooring.

I'm into musicals and comedy. No dirty laundry, sexual escapades or fake reality for me.

Why would I appreciate such things? I spent 6 years at secondary school. I've had my fill of watching people embarrass themselves, and have their 'dignity wrenched away and stomped into the dirt'.
It's not funny or amusing. It's just tired and lame. Perhaps some clever editing is involved to produce reality TV shows, but that doesn't change the fact that they are just boring.
imaplanck. 11-30-06, 09:29 PM I used to love Columbo , yet everyone hated it at home.
imaplanck. 11-30-06, 09:32 PM Oh shit ! Friends, Cheers and happy days. Piles of shit but everyone loves them.
imaplanck. 11-30-06, 09:44 PM All Soaps! Everyone loves them but they suck ass.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was his redemption movie in my eyes. The movie was amazing, and he did a great job in it.
Now as far as things I hate that everyone else loves:
Saturday Night Live - I never found it as funny as MAD TV, seemed more like annoying humor than anything else.
American Idol- When it came out, this show convinced half of my high school that they could sing. Thanks alot Fox.
The Fast and the Furious- Maybe it's just the area I live in, but it's impossible to convince people around here that these are bad movies.
imaplanck. 12-01-06, 12:06 AM Titanic. I hate that movie.
Titanic. I hate that movie.
Me too.
Titanic. I hate that movie.I loved it. My only complaint was the overdrawn love story and the mean fiance. 40 minutes could have been shaved off.
Pearl Harbor was a movie to hate. Such a great story for a movie but after TWO hours we hear in the film: "Japanese planes are getting ready to head to Pearl Harbor!!" Jesus H Christ! My ass was numb from sitting so long already! Ruined by an overwrought love story. Sound familiar? People interested in Titanic & Pearl aren't wanting a goddamn love story!!!!!
imaplanck. 12-01-06, 12:18 AM I loved it. :
I bet you had a crush on leonardo decadburyscreamegg.;)

Hehe. If youve ever been to india you'll know why.
So you prefer the more rugged fag?No. I'm not into gay guys. I like em straight only. No bi's either.
Titanic. I hate that movie.
That movie rocked!
Women, children and poor people died in the droves, a guy jumped off the end of the boat and hit the propeller on the way down, and the ship sank.
mountainhare 12-06-06, 09:48 PM Roman:
and the ship sank.
Tut tut. You should put a 'spoiler' tag before giving the ending of a movie away. Not everyone knows that the Titanic hit an iceberg, and ended up on the ocean floor.
gatecrasher 12-07-06, 05:03 PM It doesn't get much worse than The OC.
