Has anyone else seen it yet? It is by far one of the best horror movies I've seen so far. For once someone came out with a good ghost movie.
I looked up the trailers and it looks awesome, different but awesome! I wonder when the European premiere will be. http://www.paranormalactivity-movie.com/trailer.html
Lame. So very lame. Good idea gone wrong. I had high hopes for this one. I still haven't seen a scary movie since about 1979.
Have you watched Ringo? Or the Grudge movies [original not English remakes] Ronnie Screwwala [PBUH] has recently started UTV World movies, I am going crazy with the stuff on it. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! http://www.utvworldmovies.com/index.php
The acting was pretty damned good and the idea was great - that's about all I can say positive for it. The worst thing was that cheap ending *spoiler when she jumps at the screen - it turned it into a bad YouTube joke /spoiler*. Don't quote this, or you will reveal the spoiler!
I figured that Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! So what was it that made it suck? I'm trying to figure out if I want to see it.
There’s not a whole lot I can say without spoiling it… I couldn’t buy the relationship of the main couple for a lot of reasons. The male lead’s character was inconsistent. Many of the reactions were hard to buy. There were some great opportunities to show what was learned in his “paranormal research” and they went absolutely nowhere with it. There were also some plot details that were just silly, but I can’t talk about them. The ending – like I said – was very cheap. Too many contrived devices that were impossible to ignore or believe. I wasn’t drawn into the story because of all these factors and more. Like I said the only GOOD thing was the acting and the idea – and the fact that the idea was good, made it that much worse.
MZ, what in particular about the movie makes you say that it's one of the best horror movies you've seen? Just trying to hear both sides Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
It constantly kept you on edge. I personally think the plot was very good. It takes a lot to scare people. And what scares people the most? Things you can't see! Not like the Ring when some computer altered girl comes crawling out of the TV or some girl gets stuck in the TV like Poltergeist. It was believable, unlike most horror movies which their plots are so far fetched. The acting was the best I've seen in a very long time. The ending, though abrupt, was good. The ONLY thing I didn't like about the movie was that it took about 1/2 way through to really get suspensful. But once it did, it kept you on the edge of your seat until the end.
My boyfriend said that same thing. Me? The previews were almost too scary. I don't do horror. ~String
That's another problem. The set-up took sooo long. The first half of the movie felt more like a directionless romantic comedy than a horror film.
Thanks, MZ. Lately, I often find that I'm a bit too critical of movies where in the past I just accepted some doubtful aspects of a movie for the sake of my own viewing pleasure. It's hard to go back to that. That said, I guess I will have to make up my own mind by going out to see it, maybe I will.
I like that it wasn't visible - that's part of what made it a good idea. It could have been believable if they plugged up all the plot holes.
The stage was far too big. I am all for character and story development - one of my biggest complaints about movies is the lack of character and story development - but they didn't do that. They just kept trailing along slowly - a little here... a little there... then BAM, there's the suspense. And the "scary" was much more startling than it was scary. If someone lighting a firecracker without you knowing it counts as scary in your book - then it had some scary in it. If scary means being psychologigcally and emotionally drawn into the character's lives in a believable, compelling story and feeling scared for them and with them when the carpet is pulled from under them and they creep up on insanity - this was not scary at all. It's all personal preference, of course, so make up you own mind. I haven't seen a film that has scared me since The Omen when I was 7, so I am a tough customer for horror films. It is cheap to light a firecracker when someone is not looking to make them jump - it is beauty to convince someone their life is in danger and maintain that panic in them.
I see what you mean. Horrors don't do much for me in the scaring department anyway. The only time a movie scared me was when I sneaked downstairs to watch TV, when I was around 9 (I think), and watched "The Exorcist". Not that I got nightmares from watching it or anything. On a side note: As a kid I wanted to have nightmares. I thought they were great Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! The only nightmare with something from TV in it was one that was loosely based on Michael Jackson's Thriller.
