View Full Version : Most important threads
I think for the sake of gaining new members, the Star Trek vs. Star Wars thread and Rap or Crap? threads have been the most important.
Anyone here remember what thread/section drew them to Sciforums?
For me, I think it was something in the religion section.
Anyone here remember what thread/section drew them to Sciforums?
My first post (http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?p=538439#post538439) was in the thread that is still going: On the CD Player (Turntable) Today (http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=7037&page=74&pp=20)
I first took interest in the philosophy and religion section in general.
cosmictraveler 09-15-05, 02:14 PM The astronomy section drew my attention.
For me it was the backslash777- man, machine, alien (http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=3157&page=1&pp=20) thread back in 2001.
I read it for three months, then decided to join Sciforums.
My first post is on this (http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=3157&page=14&pp=20) page.
geodesic 09-17-05, 09:41 AM All I can remember is that it was in Physics and Maths, but nothing else.
Hi, this is my first ever post on sciforums so I don't want to ruffle any feathers, (wait for it) but (there it is) how can you defend your argument about what happens inside a black hole by saying that nobody knows what happens inside a black hole?(only a major contradiction)
Furthermore, why would it be more likely to have atoms than to not have atoms? Especially if you consider that a state before a black hole (neutron star) does not have whole atoms?
I was drawn by the SCI in sciforums.
p.s. you guys can just click on yourself and go to your profile, then hit "view all posts, then go to the last page. that will be your first post.
Fraggle Rocker 09-17-05, 12:36 PM There used to be quite a few linguists here, people who really knew a lot about the various types of language structure, phonetics, taxonomy, etc. A google search on some fine point of linguistics is what brought me here the first time and that's what initially got me interested. Now I seem to be the dean of that department and I'm only an amateur.
Hey, I'm the dark linguist ...
crazyfreespirit 09-17-05, 04:21 PM The thread on Teh Gimmickry is how I found sciforums, becuase this other forum that I frequent was working on it and got stuck, so I thought I'd look to see if I could find more help. Anyway, I found this place, looked around, fell in love and joined, though I mostly lurk and learn on the boards where I don't know much.
Asguard 09-18-05, 07:53 PM i was looking up UFO's on my home page and it lead here:p But the ethics debates are what i was first interested in. My first post would have been a "hi im new" thread:p
Hey, I'm the dark linguist ...
I thought you were RosaMagika.
malkavpunk 10-01-05, 08:59 AM i came into this forum a LONG time ago as "reformedtopunk". I can't remember what threads brought me in, but i know it was the great Pollux V that got me into sci-forums.
Reformedtopunk, eh? I remember you, if not just cause you liked punk.
invert_nexus 10-01-05, 06:11 PM I was googling for resources on Jewish religion. Ended up in some weird-ass thread down in the archive. Yeshua ben Joseph (http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=2422).
I'm so ashamed that I was drawn here with a religious thread.
The shame of it all....
My only defense is that religion is composed of deep-seated needs in our psyche and by understanding the forces at work in the world's religions, we can more fully understand the forces at work in our own minds.
Still.
Ick.

Hey Teh Gimmickry! Thats ME!~ :o LOL, I plagued this forum with useless, frustrating riddles...
BTW: Can someone tell me what the heck are referrals?
malkavpunk 10-03-05, 07:40 PM Reformedtopunk, eh? I remember you, if not just cause you liked punk.

I'm so ashamed that I was drawn here with a religious thread.
I think I may have been, too. If I recall, I was doing research for a school project and stumbled across these forums. Spent hours reading before I joined.
I found this place while looking for information about salvia. I found some thread here with a little info, then I noticed the eastern philosophy and religion forums. That was a little over a year ago, i think. ive probably read every good thread in the philosophy section since then.
I remember spending half the night reading a really good zen philosophy thread.
"I'm so ashamed that I was drawn here with a religious thread."
me too. what was i thinking???
edit: hooray, my thousandth post
Fukushi 10-06-05, 10:09 AM I don't know anymore,...I think it was the backslash thread,....yeah,...then the Mabus thread,...or was it the other way around,...
Well anyway,...I never ever spammed the forums with threads that are unimportant (euphemistically speaking)
if you're intrested in a new way to explore sciforums:
look up posts from members that seem to be intresting,...and browse the forum that way,...it gives a lot of insight into your fellow posters.
:m:

One of the first threads I started was asking about the proper way to measure penis size. Is it done when the penis is erect or flaccid?
But people just mocked me. Stupid self-proclaimed scientists. They obviously didn't know the answer.
Russ723 10-10-05, 09:11 PM No amount of natural selection will eliminate congenital retardation. There will always be random mutation. - the first post by Russ723
It was in EMJ.
Someone said euthanasia would eliminate retardation.
I enlightened them.
