I think before a moderator locks a thread, they should post a real brief explanation - saying something general like "this thread has strayed too far from the original discussion" is fine. It would be the last post of the thread.

I don't think this should apply to Free Thoughts or Cesspool because in those forums, there are so many threads that get locked that it'd take too much time away from the mod. I think Porfiry takes care of Free Thoughts the most...he does enough administrative work on the site already, plus threads in Free Thoughts and Cesspool usually have the least amount of discussion going on.

I've been reading older threads, and for the ones that are locked I can't figure why they are so. It'd be a quick thing to do for "historic" purposes.

    edit:

Some mods do this some of the time anyway, I've seen Asguard do it in the Politics forum. Having all mods do it, all of the time is what the proposal is about.

Sounds decent enough to me, since it is also not always clear to me.

I usually try to post a brief reason. Sometimes it is fairly obvious (e.g. most threads which end up in the Cesspool).

I thought that the thread said that it would be nice to have a reason, not that there should ALWAYS be a reason.

I always post a reason. If not, then I tell the thread maker why it was moved to the Cesspool.

I doubt if mods need to give a reason.

We all agreed beforehand that anything could be deleted or moved without any reason or warning, right?

i dont think so it is necc for ny mods to give out reasons before they close a thread !!!

they can do it totally on their discretion and that is the reason that they have been appointed as mod ....

I find it most amusing that you are censuring Naomi for suggesting that the mods have free run of this place.
