View Full Version : Moderator Vote
Porfiry 12-31-02, 05:59 PM Alright, this is the vote for the new moderator of General Philosophy. If the candidates wish to say anything or if anyone wishes to ask questions of the candidates, please do so in this thread.
This election is now over. Xev now presides over General Philosophy.
%BlueSoulRobot% 12-31-02, 06:32 PM I'd like to ask the candidates why I should vote for them at all? Thanks. :)
static76 12-31-02, 06:42 PM When I think of the General Philosophy forum, I think of Xev's posts. My vote is for Xev, though Tyler would be a great second choice.
always supporting a fellow Nietzschean
I too, shall reserve my vote until later. I would very much like to see a campaign speech of sorts.
I believe Xev would be ideal. Apart from her lively, attractive, and often bizarre wit she has demonstrated a well read background and excellent perceptions in matters philosophical.

I agree with you, if she matured, hell yea she'd be kick ass.
If not...
What we need in a moderator of General Philosophy is not that they have read the words of dead people. What we need is maturity, depth of though, and good judgement. If he had the free time these days I would recommend Tiassa for the position, even though I disagree with him a lot. My other recommendations would be Orthogonal (not here any more), Goofyfish, Cris, and Q. However, as they are not in the list...
hmmm....the vote is really close.
Yeah, Tiassa would have been my #1 pick. Always open minded he is...
Although, I think we should give Xev a chance. Heck, maybe she'd even rethink sharing her insanity with innocent victims given we put her in a position of power?
Yup, responsibility will tame her right?:D
We can but dream and hope.
But really I have every confidence in her high intelligence to do a good job.
Hail! *starts kissing her feet*
CounslerCoffee 01-03-03, 08:11 AM Hail! *starts kissing her feet*
I started doing that weeks ago.:)
*stRgrL* 01-03-03, 03:33 PM GO XEV GO!
Wet1, Goofyfish, Porfiry,... I've never read any aggressive words by these people. They have IMHO a good profile to moderate conversations.
Xev...does not fit in that list. She has much more temperament, and I can't imagine her moderating anything. It would be hypocritical of her to edit out strong language or insults.
The other thing a mod should do, to get threads on track and to try and keep things interesting, that she would do fine.
TruthSeeker 01-03-03, 04:27 PM Not Xev... PLEASE...

Well, look at the bright side. At least she does not act immature, uneducated, and illiterate like the other .....errr....hum.... moderator(s) (don't want to give out any name(s) here). If you think she is bad, there are worse one(s) in sciforums.
I am sure she knows very well if she abuses her moderator privilege, Dave can remove her. Dave has demoted moderators before... I really don't think we should worry about Xev causing any problems. Xev is intelligent. An intelligent woman like her won't do anything stupid to cause people to further question her moderator status in the future as long as she wants to stay as a mod.
Instead we should focus on what she can bring to the table relative to other potential candidates.
Porfiry 01-03-03, 05:23 PM Though moderators are chosen by the community, they are still held to certain standards, like impartiality, defined by myself and the other moderators and supermoderators.
And, isn't it entirely unfair to preemptively criticize someone before they've had a chance to prove themselves?

Like what? I would say that Zero is more mentally stable then her, just to begin with... :D:D:D
(nothing against you, Xev... :D:rolleyes: )
TruthSeeker 01-03-03, 05:55 PM Porfiry,

Well, if you look at someone's words, you might find that many of them can be criticized... they don't have a chance to prove themselves as moderators but they already have influence to some extent. Besides, intention and impartiality are far more important than action and judgment (but so far, that's how our world works, hence why it is so messed up...:o:bugeye::eek: ) and it's not so hard to see that the probability that some of those candidates have for being impartial and of good intention is pretty low...

Everyone is partial toward certain issues unless if the person is absolutely clueless. People have to take certain position toward one side or another in order to have any debate.
Nelson, I know you can't handle the truth just yet but you will be okay. After knowing that Xev will be a mod in philosophy forum, I expect some people to go through the normal emotional stages .....
1. Shock and disbelief:
"Oh ma lawd. How can this happen?"
2. Confusion and Agitation:
The phase follows immediately after shock and disbelief. It lasts a month.
3. Denial:
"Why her? Why me? Why why why why why...."
4. Anger and Depression
Denial breaks down into anger and it leads to depression. But eventually.....
5. Acceptance.
It's very normal. You will be okay Nelson. Just hang in there...

I won't have no schock and disbelief. This world is like it is because we always vote in the wrong people. Confusion and confusion... anyone is impartial... :bugeye:
Xev? She said before that she wouldn't edit out insults.
She's fairly well read on phil, and has views that are un-boring enough for me. Hail Xev.

porfiry and i were promised some ass....
TruthSeeker 01-03-03, 07:31 PM EVERYone is more stable then Xev... :bugeye:
:D:D:D:D
Xev will do a much more than sufficient job for what you ask of her. She has clearly stated that her policy is not one of removing every little swear word and personal insult. You guys voted her in, so obviously the (vast) majority of active participants in the philosophy section are all for this policy. And frankly, you wouldn't have gotten any different from myself and, I doubt, from zero.
As for being impartial... Take it from personal experience, Xev is quite capable of this if it is absolutely necessary. And she is well aware of what will work best in sciforums.
TruthSeeker 01-03-03, 07:51 PM Not really...:D:D
Btw... you voted for yourself, didn't you?:D:D:D
And who said we need to debate...?
TS, that you have given up on debating became obvious even to me a long time ago...
Just chill... (http://war.str3am.com:7410/listen.pls) and retreat back into Religion forums where you belong! :)
TruthSeeker 01-03-03, 08:51 PM I belong to the whole forums... :D:eek::m:
*Xev strides in wearing a full length mink coat and carrying a riding crop*
Worship me, slaves. As my first act as moderater, I order you all to wash my Alfa Romeo.
*Flips her red hair over her shoulder and walks away*
P.S: Thanks guys. :)
I would welcome Xev to the ranks of the moderators. The membership has chosen wisely before, I have no doubt they have done so again.
Xev has seen this place go round a time or two. She knows how to handle things and I am sure she is up to the task.
Welcome to your new home, Xev.
For those who did not make the moderator position, there are still positions open. Once again, no candidate went without those who thought enough of them to place a vote in their favor. Congrads all around for people willing to step up and be counted.
EvilPoet 01-04-03, 03:53 AM Good luck.
