Just started reading Mr Hawking's new book, one initial thought.

When political thinkers discovered postmodernism and mixed it with politics, they prefixed the new idealogies 'post' in lui of acknowledging the origin. When architects started to use postmodernism as a system they called it postmodern architecture. Stephen Hawking has now created postmodern physics or perhaps post-physics, fine, but seems to want to call it 'model-dependent realism' and say I thought it up, 40+ years after postmodern philosophers thought it up.

Model-Dependent Realism - A Positivistic Approach to Realism

I believe model-dependent realism is a valid new approach for making progress in 21st century physics. It has a long history in the clash between positivism and realism in physics. See my latest softwarephysics post:

They won't let me put in the link, so just Google for "softwarephysics" and you willl find my blog. The posting is in the January 2011 Archive in the upper right hand corner of the webpage.
