You can trust a native: It's ree not ruh. (though I suppose I negate myself since a shitload of natives pronounce it ruh.. it's annoying)
Ask them if Terri would be pronounced "ree" or "ruh". When they say "ree", ask them why this grammatical rule doesn't apply to Missouri.
I'm from Missouri and I pronounce it Missou-ree, er Misery... hehe. I, also, agree it's annoying when local people say "missourah." Hehe. I mean, they prounce everything else as it sounds, for example the town Tina is not pronounced [Teena] but [Tyna]. My parents and grandparents, also, have a habit of saying "potatah" and "tomatah." Hehe. It's kinda funny.
It is 'ree' and I can't stand it when hicks say otherwise. Wes - As another native I know your pain. Anyone hear that song by low called missouri where they sing miiiserrrry in the chorus? Pretty funny.
Okay, the other town I was thinking of that natives pronounce messed up... (see my post above)... is Versailles. It's not [Ver-sy], as pronounced in French. Here, it's pronounced [Ver'sails]. Arrg. You can see why all of the other towns have simple names.
Sweetheart you forgot to put the "uh-hyuck" after your pronuncian guideline "ver'sails". Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
[To: Wesmorris]: Sorry Honey! Sheesh! Where's my head? (See correction in quote above.) Now, I'm off to milk that there cow in that barn.

Oh, s*. We do have punkins!!! *logs of an runs as she sees one kiddo running with scissors, and another with a fork headed for an outlet.*
Missourah? Warshington? My grandfather was from Missouri, though he left at age 9 or so. He was also the only person who (A) said "Missourah" and (B) didn't say "Warshington". Don't know what to tell you. I've always said Missouree, but I've always been from up here in Warshington. :m:, Tiassa Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
