Today at the park we saw some fish. My daughter asked what they were and I told her they were trout. A lady standing next to me corrected me by saying "no, they are minnows" I just smiled.
I was telling my husband this and he didn't see what was so funny. I said minnows are a size of fish. They were small trout, so yes, they were minnows, but they were also trout. He said minnows are a type of fish, not a size of fish. They weren't trout, they were minnows.
So, here I am. Are minnows a specific kind of fish, or small fish of various kinds? (and we live in the US, so if there is a minnow in Africa, it doesn't count.)

He doesn't consider wikipedia a valid source. I could have written it.Well then remind the dude that he is not your professor and you are not his student and you are not writing a university paper that is required to satisfy academic standards. The reliability of Wikipedia is perfectly satisfactory for everyday conversation among laymen. The probability of an important error in a Wikipedia article is probably lower than the probability that he'll misunderstand what you tell him, or simply forget it.
Nonetheless Orly, it does appear that you own a computer with an internet connection and furthermore that you know how to use it. Make friends with Google. You'll learn some interesting stuff that way.
If you're looking for an academic level of rigor then I think you're on the wrong website!

No, we don't have pronghorns. It might be it's far cuter cousin, the muntjac deer:

I had a snoop around at the website's source code to see if I could find any more info about their picture, but they're not telling. Which is a shame, as you've got me curious now. Maybe we have some British wildlife experts who'll be able to enlighten us.
USS Minnow, the most famous fish of all.
