    It wasn't that good.

Sounded a little bit like a threat, in an odd way.

It'd be nice to see more people taking the piss out of Moore. I like his docu's, but he is a bit of an asshat and his films are very one sided - as everyone likes to point out. He harps on about the same things a lot.

Did anyone see his film, Canadian Bacon? Unless I didn't get it, which I don't think is the case, it was shit. It just sums up his main arguments, throws in some fairly crap humour and features some Z list celebrities.

I liked John Safran parodying Michael Moore in John Safran vs. God.

He parodied the bit in Bowling for Columbine where Michael harasses the rifle owners top man, whatever his name is, and leaves a picture on his fence before sulking away down the path.

Mikey Moron is annoying. His crockumentaries are full of lies, half-truths, and distortions. They are trying to pass a new law banning discrimination against fat people. That should make him happy. But it probably won't. He's a very angry, unhappy man.

Everything you watch on tv is full of half truths and distortions. To successfully put your point across, you have to make your arguments sound more convincing than the other sides. Whilst Moore is pretty heavily biased, I don't think he lies outright. Bends the truth slightly, maybe.

What particular things that he's said do you think are lies?

And why the dig about him being fat? He doesn't seem hung up on it and he seems to even make fun of himself sometimes. I'm not sure if you have a personal issue with overweight people, but it seems a fairly harsh thing to come out with. If you don't like the guys ideas, fair enough, but don't discriminate him based on his looks.

Everything I watch on tv is edifying in some way. The Jesus shows are awesome. I can never learn too much. It's a lifetime process of growth.

Moore has been discredited for much of Fahrenhype 911 and parts of his other crockumentaries. I have no use for him.

His fatness is grotesque. He's not just fat--he's obese. And disgusting. Fat I can handle. Sloppy and gross, I cannot.

Do you watch anything beside The Jesus shows and preachers? If you do, are those programmes edifying?

    Who/where/when/why? Cites?
Fahrenheit 911 is the only one I haven't seen by him, so I can't comment. The others seem to have biased, but fair points.[/quote]

Why is he disgusting? I've seen fatter people than him. He can walk by himself. What do his looks have to do with anything, when it's his ideas and his views that we should be interested in, or not as the case may be.

No. Maybe a few minutes of American Idol when it's interesting. Or a few minutes of FOX. But mostly Jesus stuff. It's the best.

I find Mikey Moron repulsive. In every way.

I'm sure Jesus would feel exactly the same as you. Glad to see you're 'growing' spiritually.

That's no way to talk about Jesus. I mean, come on, hygiene standards were different back then. It was perfectly acceptable to smell like ass.

Yes. Well, you can't expect Jesus to be a Christian when Christianity wasn't created until several years after his death.
    You're being unfair.

What a dick. Why so defensive? I don't think Moore's point was that Cuba has great leaders who respect human rights, but that for all their faults, they can give their citizens health care and we can't. I guess the Senator doesn't give a crap about that, his carcinomic lungs will get the best health care your tax dollars can buy.

Cuba and Human rights are about as related as day and night.

Yeah they should get health care, seeing as how a lot of them get the shit kicked out of them for simple dissidence.

This seems to be the only way to get communism to work on a large scale...

All governments want to keep their people in fear of something. Violence, torture and imprisonment is probably the easiest to start, but maybe not to keep going.

The west had the cold war, nuclear attack. The threat of terrorism - travelling anywhere, anyhow or even being in a busy place. Not eating the right things. Drinking too much. Doing any drug will severely destroy your life. Farting when the wind's blowing SE and there's a full moon means instant paralysis.

They're different in that we (the west) don't ever have to face our fears, but they don't seem that different on a fundamental level.

The more immediate the threat, the greater the insecurity and willingness to go along with what the government say is best. After all, they know best, right? Especially if they're dishing out beatings and torture if you don't follow what they say.

I don't know if any of that made sense, but in my current state it did and was fun to think about.

    I'm sorry----you're saying these things aren't/weren't a real threat?

No, but they're made out to be bigger problems than they usually are.

If there's nothing to draw attention away from the way the government operates and nothing for the people to be distracted by, it'll be a bumpier ride for the government.

If they want to keep the masses under control, they need to have the power to keep them on their side. Whether it's telling them how they can avoid a grisly end, how they can help to protect their children and their country, or generally avoid something nasty, they'll do it, it seems.

I'm playing with some ideas, so feel free to put your own viewpoints across.

    I like writing stuff

When the government says "We've recieved credible information that leads us to believe that a terrorist attack is more likely this week", liberals say "You're just trying to scare us, controlling us with fear." If said terrorist attack goes down, however, liberals then are the first to say "You didn't do enough to prevent terror attacks from happening".

Maybe it's just me who notices these things.

    It's probably just me...

    P'raps.

There's no winning really, is there?

Maybe it's a cultural thing, or maybe even a personal thing for me, but it just seems that everyone's out to frighten you in some way.

You need omega-3 or you'll die of a heart attack tomorrow!

Do any drugs and you'll become a schizophrenic vegetable.

It's likely that some fundy freaks will attempt to bomb the shit out of all the buses, trains, planes you might want to travel on.

Exaggerated slightly, but wouldn't you agree that there's a ridiculous amount of things we're told to do to stay safe, healthy and avoid risk?

Nanny state-esque. I like adding -esque to words.
