View Full Version : Men are living in the Past
Singularity 03-09-07, 11:54 AM I have seen many men make a Jack out of themselves by treating me like a woman from 19th Century. It seems most men have no idea about the change in the situation about women in science.
Even here some men talk as if i am a stripper or something.
In the end they pay for their superiority complex, as they are loosing on their women contacts, professional opportunities or status.
one_raven 03-09-07, 12:01 PM You are a scientist??
Singularity 03-09-07, 12:12 PM Do u both want to discriminate me by treating me differently based on my profession or gender ?
This thread is not about me, its about primitive men.
Do u both want to discriminate me by treating me differently based on my profession or gender ?
No, but do you equate discrimination with education?
Singularity 03-09-07, 12:44 PM No, but do you equate discrimination with education?
Definately , there are many instances where not so educated people have far out performed the highly qualified ones; the best examples is BillGates.
Dr_Zinj 03-09-07, 01:28 PM Curious to know what kind of treatment you equate to 19th century of women.
Are we talking the master/slave scenario?
Or the customer/prostitute (shades of Jack the Ripper anyone?) or the husband/mistress scenarios?
Or the master of the house/dutiful submissive wife scenario?
Are we talking about a personal relationship, or a professional relationship?
Pierre and Marie Curie strike me as about the best professional relationship between a man and a woman in the 19th century, inspite of being married. of course I don't know what their private lives were like but it couldn't have been that bad if they stuck together.
I'll make one unsupported statement before I send this one off.
The sexual revolution and women's lib are to blame for men having no idea of how to treat women, or what their role in male-female relationships is supposed to be.
Baron Max 03-09-07, 01:36 PM Do u both want to discriminate me by treating me differently based on my profession or gender? This thread is not about me, its about primitive men.
I hope that you're not so narrowly focused that you can't see "discrimination" in almost any and all forms of human interaction. Men "discriminate" against other men because of the lack of hair on their heads; or the size of their belly; or their height; or weight; or skin color; or nationality; or cultural background; or..........
Don't pump up your own ego with thinking that women are the only ones who "suffer" from "discrimination".
And now that I know you're a woman, I probably won't talk to you no more! :D

Not to mention the discrimination men receive from women.
We are stupid, greasy, barbaric, bumbling louts who think with our smaller heads and discriminate against women!

darksidZz 03-09-07, 04:28 PM Someone brought up the idea that sexual discrimination is really difficult to define, even more-so is sexual harassment. These concepts are usually confined to woman, but sometimes men can be victims as well.
For a really great analogy I read "do woman have the right to dress as sexually attractive as they like without there being consquences?" This address's the best question I've heard, is the fact woman dress whatever way they want and can basically have panties sticking out of their pants, shorts up to their butts, and belly shirts, a form of harassment against men?
Doesn't it cause men frustration and difficulty not being able to have sex with them when they are basically all sex'd up?
Would raping one be a real crime if she'd dressed so sexy?
These questions are truly difficult to answer, some would say rape is an unwanted sexual act but so to may be the womans way of dressing to show off her nakedness. Both are possibly equally unwanted, because let's face it what guy wants to look at a hot chick if he can't sleep with her?

That is not even the lest bit difficult to answer.
YES it is dead wrong!
Regardless of how pathetically hard up you are, and how provocatively she may be dressed you have ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT WHATSOEVER TO TOUCH HER AGAINST HER WILL.
I don't give a shit if she is walking around naked, and you haven't had sex for three years - stare all you want but you have no right to touch anyone against his or her will.

BenTheMan 03-09-07, 05:09 PM I hope you're not talking about on SciForums Singularity. There is no way for anyone to know that you are a woman---there is no information in your profile, and nothing about your name suggests femininity.
If people talk to you like you are a stripper, then it is because you show a stripper's understanding of science.

Were you thorough enough to include in that little write-up the antics of the lady astronaut who was so horny and "in love" that she threatened another woman because of jealousy?? Is that one of your "Women in Science", Sam? If not, why not????? Isn't she a good example of "Women in Science"?? :D

So u mean men in science dont beg for sex with women ?
Infact they are like dogs when it comes to sex, may be thats the reason behind that story.

Sorry this is no secret, we try to treat men at par with us but the men are living in 19th Century, somehow they think they should treat and talk us like a hoar. They forget that there are stripper men too, that doesnt mean women treat every man like a stripper.
Singularity 03-09-07, 11:29 PM What country do you live in?
Dont worry about my country, just look at your Avatar, it says everything about your primitive instincts.

Who the hell is this we you're talking about. I'd bet for every asshole guy you showed me I could find an asshole girl. Stop being a troll by using blanket statements that cover an entire fucking gender.
Hell, if I can find just one nice guy, your entire post is proven to be bs and I'd bet a million bucks I could do it.
And I'm not even going to try to figure out how you got to "hoar".
Singularity 03-10-07, 03:04 AM I must admit i have to regularly ignore loonies out here, specially the mannerless and foul mouthed.
Singularity 03-10-07, 03:10 AM I guess you're some kind of freakish robot then, huh?
If u show your Avatar to girls u know in person , rest assured u will be left only those girls who want to use u. So in long run guys like u r getting extinct to guys who act sane and responsible. I mean why will girls go after sex maniacs who will ditch them any moment they could get hands on another girls who looks like the one portraited in media.
Those women shown in the media are out there to make money on guys like u being their fans, hats off to them.
BTW who are u trying to impress in SciForums with that Avatar. I mean the girls wont respect u and i assume u r not a gay so gays wont be impressed either, so whats the use of showing that stripper to other straight sex maniacs out here ?

Wow Singularity, having the knowledge of what every single girl superluminal meets will think is quite impressive. Along with being able to get read superluminal's mind and know he's trying to impress someone. I didn't know people were capable of such feats.
And no matter what words I use, it doesn't change the fact that your thread is blatantly meant to cause disruption. Unless of course, you truly are that sexist.
Your sexist statements are as unmannered and loony as anything I can type.
Syzygys 03-10-07, 08:42 AM , somehow they think they should treat and talk us like a hoar.
OK, there is speedtyping and such, but hoar?
Is it: whore, hare, boar???
If there were no whores men would forget after a while how to talk to them, and no women would be talked to as a whor... prostitute. :bugeye:

This thread is stupid and boring, my little hare bunny!!!
Baron Max 03-10-07, 01:21 PM I must admit i have to regularly ignore loonies out here, specially the mannerless and foul mouthed.
Apparently you don't ignore them or you'd never have posted this in the first place.
So ....since you obviously don't ignore them, what is it that attracts you to them? I've heard many women suggest that women daydream and have exciting fantasies of being treated like a common whore ...to be taken and used sexually just for the pleasure of some man or men. Hmm? Perhaps it's those fantasies ....and they bother you some?
Baron Max
Baron Max 03-10-07, 01:44 PM Heh.
And now that you've mentioned it ......what the hell does "heh" mean?
I've always taken it as a tiny, little laugh or giggle ...usually, like in this case, to mean something like, "Yeah, ain't it great? But you'll never know how I really feel about it."
Just curious. And where the hell does it come from? Aussie? Canadian?
Baron Max
It doesn't necessarily have to mean that line you gave as an example. It's acknowledging that something humored you but not to the point of laughter. I'm surprised you've never heard it as I do it and I've heard others do it in real life.
No clue where it comes from.
sisyphus__ 03-10-07, 01:51 PM relatively immature thread, superluminal

Fraggle Rocker 03-10-07, 07:08 PM Definately , there are many instances where not so educated people have far out performed the highly qualified ones; the best examples is BillGates.Don't be so quick to hold up Bill Gates as an example. The only thing he's good at is making money, which simply means that he's got the "people skills" to be a con man. The product that he has foisted on the world may yet be our undoing. He's a textbook example of how not to run software projects, from not even being able to spell "QA," to letting the marketing department dictate when a product is ready to ship instead of the people who are testing it. He was in the right place in the right time and he got lucky and rich. And because of him we're struggling to build a planet-wide information infrastructure with Windows, software that we should be paid to use because we are all alpha test sites for a corporation that doesn't care about us.For a really great analogy I read "do woman have the right to dress as sexually attractive as they like without there being consquences?" Doesn't it cause men frustration and difficulty not being able to have sex with them when they are basically all sex'd up? Would raping one be a real crime if she'd dressed so sexy? Let's face it what guy wants to look at a hot chick if he can't sleep with her?Where do you live dude, some Stone Age backwater like Iran? That's the argument Muslim men give you when you ask why they make their women dress in those stupid ninja outfits. "Oh if any man saw a bit of her skin he would be unable to control himself and she would be raped. I'm just protecting her by keeping her covered up and locked up like a prize animal."
You get used to anything. In America some women go around looking literally like prostitutes and most of the time we don't really notice. Somebody did a "candid camera" thing a couple of years ago where they had a woman walk down the sidewalk in a big city totally naked. A lot of men didn't even give her a second glance.
If you have a healthy sex life you don't need to obsess with the women you see, no matter how they're dressed or undressed. And if you don't have a healthy sex life, in America, in 2007, then there's something terribly wrong with you! These days therere are no inhibitions, no taboos. Anybody can have a healthy sex life if they really want to, and if they're civilized enough to treat their partners like real people.
Fraggle Rocker 03-10-07, 08:45 PM Do you have any practical experience in writing operating systems, GUI's or apps?As a matter of fact I've been in I.T. since 1967, when we wrote in Cobol and used punch cards. I once wrote an operating system for a small 3rd generation mainframe. I developed a gazillion applications. I built a peripheral utility that no one else had been able to do at all, and it ran around the clock for thirteen years with only two failures. Today I'm an IT project management consultant, trying to keep America competitive in an industry that is rapidly becoming a joint venture of India and China, where already-old "innovations" like Function Point-based measurement and estimation and the SEI CMM are practically national laws. I teach project management courses, but if I could pound three principles into Grungeware Inc., they would be:
1. If somebody tells you to shorten your schedule but won't tell you which features to eliminate in order to meet it, make the decision yourself.
2. Inspect your requirements the way you would (or should) inspect your code.
3. Remember that you're building software for real people, not other computer geeks who love figuring crap out. A lot of people can't operate a photocopier and most of them can't figure out how to set the clock on a VCR. These people are not going to be happy with three-level menus laid out in your stream-of-consciousness sequence. If you did, you'd realize, despite the mass hysteria and negative band-wagon type hype, how amazingly well an incredibly complex OS/GUI system like Windows actually does work.I don't give a ruddy goddamn how well this crap works against your lax benchmark. At least one Office 2007 application crashes on me every single day. I expect my computer to be an appliance: turn it on, watch the perfectly toasted data pop out, turn it off and forget about it. Not spend an average of three hours out of my life every week forcing hung programs to close, looking for files that were there yesterday, and figuring out why something that has worked for two months has suddenly stopped working.
I've been using some version of windows since early 3.1 and successfully runnig all kinds of engineering and support apps, networked and non-networked.I'm so happy for you. Since I left the trenches I'm like the other 99.999 percent of the human race: I want to do word processing, spreadsheets, mail, internet and some games. None of these are rocket science yet only the games really work right all the time. Fortunately I have a Macintosh for personal computing and everything except the unavoidable Grungeware products works as reliably as my 27-year-old diesel Mercedes-Benz. Your doom-saying ("may yet be our undoing") is a bit over the top.Windows has too many unplanned trapdoors and other "undocumented features" that only 13-year-old hackers can exploit. Data theft and denial of service attacks are becoming more common, how long until a hacker finally shuts down the harbor or changes the expiration date on a batch of pharmaceuticals? This is a Windows problem, not primarily because there are fewer Macs so people aren't interested in hacking them, but because Windows is just easier to hack.I suppose you would have waited until your OS/GUI was perfected and bug free, right? No. I would simply have scaled back the functionality so that I was able to deliver a product with an acceptable defect rate on the date I was supposed to deliver it.
IT professionals are compulsive troubleshooters by temperament, they're happiest when something is broken. So all their software breaks. Their managers (who are unfortunately all former geeks without a shred of people skills or management aptitude) don't understand that it takes more man-hours and dollars to build something wrong and fix it than to build it right the first time. Your first deliverable may be later than you'd like, but all those developers who used to spend 75% of their time on "maintenance" would now be freed up to do real development, and your second deliverable will be early. We'd still be using unitronic calculators as the most advanced office tool if that were the case.I'd be quite happy to still be using Windows 95 if it worked as well as OS/X. I'm actually using a version of OS/X that we installed about seven years ago on a Mac that is now nine years old. Since I use a PC at work I notice the extra features on XP, but I don't miss any of them. I'm more productive on Word2000 for Mac than on Word2007 for Windows, because I can find all the commands I want and because the Mac version doesn't crash very often. There are definitely advances yet to be made in software design and OS robustness, but come on.No no no. That's what all you tech-oriented kids think and that's the problem. The advances to be made are in management. We need to give management jobs to people who have the skills and interest to do them, not to people who deserve it as a reward for sitting in pizza-stained t-shirt for ten years writing really good code but never talking to anyone but other geeks and and thinking "procedures" are game you win by ignoring them. We're "struggling to build a planet-wide information infrastructure" because it's a fuckin' incredibly complex undertaking with many competing standards that need to play nice with each other.Well I'm a member of that "we" and I say we can do a hell of a lot better by concentrating more on the process of building software and less on the fun of thinking up clever new things for it to (barely) do.
Talk about "Living in the Past," these posts manage to fit the title of the thread. The problem with software development has always been that it's a bunch of boys having fun and trying to outdo each other, rather than a bunch of men trying to be responsible and advance civilization. That is our entire gender living in the past of our boyhoods.Define "obsess".In this context, it means (apparently) being preoccupied with them long after you got home, still thinking about how much you'd like to have sex with them, still stuck with your mouth hanging open thinking about that great-looking [fill in the name of a body part]. We don't really have to be the kind of guys who would not give a naked woman on the sidewalk a second glance. It's okay to be normal, but try to be normal adults, not normal 13-year-olds. If you want sex get into a nice relationship and you'll get sex and a bunch of other good stuff too.

All of them. In fact, I'm resigning my male gendership righ now. Now where did I put those rusty scissors...?
