I can count on one hand the number of burgers that I have eaten at this establishment in my life, even in 'slime free' Canada. :bugeye:

I've had perhaps thousands of then over my lifetime and as yet suffer no medical problems that can be attributable to something like this that I'm aware of. I just wish they would have labeled their products showing us what those hamburgers contained so that at least we knew what we were eating.

I don't think anyone has ever confused McD's food with higher quality restaurant foods.

Dont you have food labling laws? If you go into McDonalds here there is a paplet you can pick up which lists all the ingrediants and the nutriconal infomation for every product. As for this slime thry have always advertised that here they use only 100% Australian beef and the only thing they add is salt and pepper so if they used whatever this is the ACCC would have crushed there asses

We do NOW but when McDonalds first started up there were none. It took decades to establish good food laws which the food industry was fighting against because of shit like this going on within their industry.

The slime IS leftover meat scraps. It's called mechanically separated meat. It's basically a pate of that red and white layer that's left on bones after the normal cuts are taken off. Think of some quite fatty minced beef, then imagine continuing to grind it until it's totally smooth, like a raw version of pâté. It would look pretty much like that. Maybe not that neon pink, so perhaps it's coloured or has added blood.

Most processed meat products contain it, and have for decades.(The "typically used for dog food" part is misleading. Dog food typically does contain some, but mechanically separated meat doesn't typically go for dog food, most goes for sausages, pies and the like. Also, the deciding factor for pet foods is more likely to be whether it's been officially approved as fit for human consumption, not whether it was scraped or cut from the bone. )

"ammonium hydroxide", as scary as it might sound, is just a solution of ammonia and water. Virtually every type of processed food contains some ammonia. It's a simple molecule (just hydrogen and nitrogen) which animals often naturally contain. As food additives go it's among the few we can be certain won't have surprising long term effects.

It may not look appetising, but once it's cooked people like it.

The light colour suggests most of that is fat, which is probably a good thing if their claims of lean beef are true; low fat burgers taste terrible. They're too dry and chewy.

If you eat at macdonalds, mechanically separated meat is the least of your worries.

You should worry that there's virtually no fibre in it and too much fat, salt and refined carbohydrates. You should worry that you're crammed in with snotty kids smearing everything with their germs. You should worry that most studies show less than 50% of fast food "restaurant" staff wash their hands after visiting the bathroom. You should worry that you're wasting your money when you could get something better tasting and more nutritious from a place that isn't run like a factory.

I seen it. An experiment. That if you put Mc-D's frys in a jar an let it sit for a week the fries look the same as when you put them in there. I heard about this pink goop but didn't know much till I read this thread. Thanks for the information about the pink slime. I had heard it was in meat in grocery stores didn't think fast food. Or what It was... And didn't hear anything else thanks again for this I will let my wife know too.....

    i disagree.
i would assume that the food industry was more concerned with irresponsible journalism than anything else.

some foods, wheat for example, is stored in huge lots, 1000's of bushels of it.
since contamination isn't impossible in such situations the FDA allows a certain amount of "foreign ingredients".
    rat turds, roaches, hairs, etc.
this is disgusting to most people but a reality nonetheless.
imagine having to label a loaf a bread with the following:
may contain traces of rodent feces, rodent hairs and cockroaches.

This thread makes it look like McDonalds was somehow unique in using this stuff.

So it's just fast food? Nope. Try school lunches:

But, after all the hoopla, they've decided to let schools decide whether or not they want "pink slime"

Hmm. Lean, finely textured beef doesn't sound so bad.
