His Mom? What's happened to the process when people have to send their mothers out to campaign for them --- and the media actually listens?
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8SQETR00&show_article=1
I found it an amazing little episode. Elsewhere, I expressed some sympathy with candidate McCain:
And in the beneficence of my mother’s faith, I share at least something in common with Christian supremacist, former POW, and GOP presidential candidate Senator John McCain. At 95, Mrs. McCain appears a dignified presence, as well as a modern woman who is not afraid to show a little knee. And she can still make her son squirm ....
.... I think this episode does him some good. As liberals question his age and conservative outlook, I think it humanizes the candidate to show him fidget like a young boy still struggling to walk outside his mother’s shadow.

I think the media is picking up on the fact that McCain squirmed, that he talked back to his mother on national television. But I also think that's the wrong way to look at it.
It's the little connections that matter, sometimes. This incident actually bumps McCain up in my regard. He's human. And he still has his little boy hidden safely inside. And he let us have a glimpse of it. That's absolutely wonderful.

I'm sure the 3 million dollar loan he's considering will help him out.

I find that odd, since McCain's wealth (through his wife) is one of the greatest in AZ. I heard it was over a hundred million.
Hm. Guess I was wrong.

Maybe he's in the doghouse.

Seriously, folks. How low has our political dialogue sunk when this is a campaign tactic?
How low has our political dialogue sunk when this is a campaign tactic?
Honestly, Counte, I don't see it as any particular benchmark of the decline. This is, after all, the family-values party at a time when its family-values platform is in crisis. Politicians trot their kids out on the trail with them; that's a common, even expected form of expectation. And, come on, maybe the Senator and I are simply lucky in this regard, but if I was running for public office, yes, my mother would be right there, wanting to help in any way she could. Now, maybe taking her on Hardball is a bad idea akin to taking her to a dive tavern, but I don't actually see the problem.
And we should be clear: McCain didn't send his mother out for him. He sat right there beside her, and learned firsthand why it is a bad idea to bring your mother out in front of the press.

For someone who is normally so cynical I'm amazed that you don't think EVERYTHING done by EVERY candidates is planned out well in advance. In other words, McCain didn't spontaneously sit down with mom, and she didn't just speak off the cuff...
